Seriously Mon should be taken a public holiday.

Not that I really gien peng, But i feel the country should mourn for him. If other do it, why don't we?

Should go even further to put aside one day (his birthday???) as a public holiday. This is a good way to honour & remember him.

To be honest, I don't recall there are any other instance before, where other countries mark the passing on of another leader's countries with official half mast flag at their government buildings.

The last time a great leader passed away is Nelson Mandela. I don't think that even he, get half mast flag as a mark of respect from other countries.

Correction: Algeria marked the passing of Nelson Mandela with half mast flag.

Eiffel Tower in Paris gave tribute to Mandela by lighting up his name on the Tower. I was there.

Not sure if Eiffel Tower do the same for LKY.

People call the young of today the strawberry generation. Nothing can be further from the truth if you see the competition and cost etc they need to contend with.

The real Strawberry are in today's PAP.

LKY and his generation of politicians (all factions) had to walk the streets and fight real fights to survive. Regardless of how we view their politics, they had real fire and dedication.

Roy (cpf fella) wrote a post http://thehearttruths.com/2015/03/20/my-thoughts-on-lee-kuan-yew-and-singapores-future/

it kind of touched a bit on this topic.

The new generation of leaders coming in the 90s.... The helicopter, civil servants, scholars etc etc had no idea what fire and walking the streets mean.

Instead of standing up in the face of adversity, they need to be persuaded with obscene goodies.

Today, people with fire in their bellies are the exception in pap. Can only imagine what lky thinks of them.

Why are u politicizing this thread again

Was at padang a little while ago ... The people keep flowing in and no sign that it would stop anytime now. But the queue is moving ...my friend went this morning and it would take about 3 hours to get to parliament house.

Just found out that LKY gave Xi such high praises in 2007

http://world.time.com/2007/11/19/chinas_nelson_mandela/

quite disappointed that both Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang are not coming to LKY's state funeral this Sunday

i thought the friendship of Singapore and China is far better

also read that LKY was one of the few leaders to have met all 5 generations of Chinese leaders, surely the current Chinese leaders should give him more respect

Arrived at Changi at 12+am. Dropped luggage at home.

Reached Adelphi at 4am. The Q started to move really fast at 5+.

By 740am, was done. Concussed on my bedroom floor till now.

Very grateful to volunteers who gave out black ribbon pins, snacks, drinks, uniform personnel who were doing crowd control and ushering (equally long day/ night for them).

And very heartened to see Malays, Indians and Chinese intereacting in the queue and allowing the older folks and kids to sit on the steps and planter ledge (Adelphi holding area).

Crowds were streaming in from Adelphi, SRC and City Hall MRT. Massive event to handle and the planning and execution is exceptional.

We need to stay united from now as our papa no longer with us and that's what he'd have wanted and the least we can do for his legacy.

The Chinese President has never attends any state funeral of a foreign leader. The higher ranking Chinese official sent to attend state funeral of foreign leader is their Vice President. The current Vice President Li Yuanchao will be here tomorrow for the state funeral of late Mr LKY. Li was also the one to have attended the state funeral of Nelson Mandala.
