The car park operates 24 hours. Same as the Esplanade and Marina Square where more vacant lots can be found. Better try Esplanade and see if the shorter queue is still there.

Okay bro. Thank you. ^_^

Singapore overwhelmed by huge crowds mourning founding leader Lee

By Afp

Published: 10:56 GMT, 27 March 2015 | Updated: 11:28 GMT, 27 March 2015

Tens of thousands of Singaporeans braved waits of up to 10 hours outside parliament Friday to pay their last respects to founding leader Lee Kuan Yew despite appeals from overwhelmed officials to honour him elsewhere.

The city-state, famous for its clockwork handling of major events like the night-time Singapore Grand Prix, seemed unprepared for the scale of the outpouring of grief since the 91-year-old patriarch's death on Monday.

"Members of the public are strongly advised not to join the queue at the Padang now," said a government advisory which urged mourners to go instead to 18 community sites to pay homage to Lee.

The round-the-clock queue outside parliament starts at the Padang -- a large grassy field used for parades and concerts as well as football, cricket and other sports.

The notice said mourners who arrived at 10:00 am (0200 GMT) could expect to wait up to 10 hours for a chance to file past the former leader's brown wooden casket draped in the red-and-white Singapore flag.

More than 250,000 mourners had paid their respects by mid-afternoon Friday, according to an official count, up from about 150,000 at midnight Thursday.

"I am deeply moved by the overwhelming response of people wanting to visit my father’s Lying in State at Parliament House," Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Facebook.

He announced that a live video feed of the flow of mourners viewing the casket inside the parliament's lobby had been put up on Youtube.

Lee has been lying in state since Wednesday and the public has until 8:00 pm on Saturday to pay their respects.

- 'Not going to stop us' -

"The government can advise us not to queue all they want, and I understand this puts a strain on resources like volunteers and space, but that's not going to stop us from coming down," mourner Pek Tee Ann, 51, told AFP.

The turnout is massive by Singapore standards but the crowd was disciplined and morale appeared to be high.

"I feel the Singapore spirit around me, people are courteous and everyone is here for a common purpose, to honour our leader," said 17-year-old student Shruti Ram.

The city-state has a population of 5.5 million but only 3.34 million are citizens. The rest are guest workers, expatriates and their families.

At busy times, mourners can only spend a few seconds in front of the remains, many bowing quickly before being ushered to the exit.

Tents have been set up to shield mourners from the scorching tropical sun while volunteers hand out bottled water and sugared drinks, with portable toilets available on the fringes.

An express lane is reserved for the elderly, disabled and pregnant while foreign dignitaries enter via a VIP entrance.

Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan, chairman of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP), told activists late Thursday that the outpouring of emotion had "exceeded our expectations," the Straits Times reported.

"We are afraid we will not be able to fulfil the wishes of Singaporeans. But we will do our best," he said.

Lee, who is credited with transforming the former British colonial outpost into a financial powerhouse and one of Asia's wealthiest societies, is to be given full state honours before being cremated Sunday.

wah seh.. xi jin peng is coming!

Xi Jin Peng is not coming. According to ifeng.com's report, Li Yuanchao - Vice President of People's Republic of China will represent Xi to attend the State funeral of late Mr LKY.

Li was the representative of P R China to the state funeral of late Mr Nelson Mandela.

Let’s hear from Dr Mahathir

Former Malaysia PM Mahathir Mohamad 'saddened' by Mr Lee Kuan Yew's demise

SINGAPORE: Former Malaysia Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Friday (Mar 27) said he was "saddened" by the demise of Singapore's founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew

He wrote on his blog: "I cannot say I was a close friend of Kuan Yew. But still I feel sad at his demise. We crossed swords many times ... but there was no enmity, only differences in our views of what was good for the newborn nation."

Below is the blogpost reproduced in full:

No matter how friendly or unfriendly we are, the passing away of a man you know well saddens you.

I cannot say I was a close friend of Kuan Yew. But still I feel sad at his demise.

Kuan Yew became well known at a young age. I was a student in Singapore when I read about his defence of labour unions.

I first met Kuan Yew when I was a Member of Parliament in 1964 after Singapore joined Malaysia in 1963. We crossed swords many times during the debates. But there was no enmity, only differences in our views of what was good for the newborn nation. He included me among the ultra Malays who was responsible for the racial riots in Singapore. Actually I never went to Singapore to stir up trouble. Somebody else whom I would not name did.

The Tunku attended the inaugural meeting of the PAP and was quite friendly with Kuan Yew. He believed Kuan Yew was a bastion against Communism. But when the PAP contested in the Malaysian elections in 1964 with Malaysian Malaysia as its slogan, Tunku felt that the PAP’s presence in Malaysia was going to be disruptive for the country.

When I became PM in 1981, I paid a courtesy call on Kuan Yew. It was a friendly call and he immediately agreed to my proposal that the Malaysia and Singapore times which had always been the same should be advanced by half an hour. I explained that it would be easier adjusting our time when travelling as we would fall within the time zones fixed for the whole world at one hour intervals.

I am afraid on most other issues we could not agree.

When I had a heart attack in 1989 and required open heart surgery, he cared enough to ring up my wife to ask her to delay the operation as he had arranged for the best heart surgeon, a Singaporean living in Australia, to do the operation. But by then, I had been given pre-med and was asleep prior to the operation the next day.

My wife thanked him but apologised. She promised to ring him up after the operation. She did the next evening.

When he was ill, I requested to see him. He agreed but the night before the visit, the Singapore High Commissioner received a message that he was very sick and could not see me.

Still when he attended the Nihon Keizai Shimbun annual conference on the Future of Asia in Tokyo, which I never failed to attend, I went up to him at dinner to ask how he was. We sat down together to chat and the Japanese photographers took our pictures promising not to put it in the press. I wouldn’t mind even if they did. But I suppose people will make all kinds of stories about it.

Now Kuan Yew is no more. His passage marks the end of the period when those who fought for independence led their countries and knew the value of independence.

ASEAN lost a strong leadership after President Suharto and Lee Kuan Yew.

Glad that some organisation understand the song "Turn, turn, turn". A time to pay respect, instead of usual business.
