2014 Corolla Altis - Technical, Features & Use

Anyone knows where to get the replacement key pouch? Mine is peeling off badly.

 

Keyless feature is good for convenience sake but it is a real nightmare for someone like me with short memory in big multi carparks. Does anyone else prefer the traditional beep/flashing/ way of locating and unlocking cars?

SGD3640 x 19 / 25.6 = SGD2700  yearly savings = SGD900, SGD9000 over 10 years

Alt.  SGD3640 x 16.3 / 25.6 = SGD2320 and yearly savings SGD1300, SGD13000 over 10 years

 

 

Altis price @ $104k, Prius C @ $109k (BM) / , Prius @ $158k (BM) / $107k (PI) (why PI so much cheaper, what features are taken out?).

 

If one needs Altis <-> Prius 1.8 (BM), then the petrol savings hardly motivates the switch to hybrid.

And this is not yet counting in case need to change battery (think now BM has 10 years battery warranty).

 

So far,  I do not have any equipment with dc motor and rechargeable batteries that lasted 10 years.....

For some of our grp members, they did change to newer model which is so much better in terms of user friendliness and functionality. They also upgrade the whole audio package which sounds really good. I cant comment cos im still on the stock HU.

Eh....during heavy traffic, I drive on left most lane, the FC improve....

Go buy this Picard Key pouch from Robinson Store.  Its leather cost only $18.00 and better then the original pouch.

Neither did I pay a few k$ for a rechargeable battery/device so no reference point either.

 

on the other hand, I have electrical/electronics appliances that lasted > 10 years for me including a PxxxxxS TV from the 80's.

does your car beep & flash the turn indicators when you press the lock button?

 

i hate the free leather pouch from BM. Makes the key 2x bigger than it really is.

May buy one of those silicone key cover online eventually.

you said your setup is same as Drion's but his ride is nicer. What causes the difference?

Achieved 17.1km/L going to KL. Could have been better if measure after the jam at Sgp checkpoint .

 

At start of trip it could be myself n that some how the car just didn't want to reach 100km/hr.

 

Engine rev at 2k rpm at 100km/he range except overtaking.

 

I was expecting better FC because at 80km/he speed on PIE I can get max FC bar and at 100km/h4 it is constantly near mid point (~15km/L).

 

Car is certainly lighter than my previous SUV. Now I feel the push/pull of big car passing me. Also effect of cross wind.

Been looking for replacement for some time, have some questions on 2014 altis.

the car has been around since 2014, but the recent facelift make it looks more appealing. Is it a good buy for the facelift model or wait for the brand new model somewhere in 2019/2020?

also, at current price of $106K for the elegance model, what kind of freebiess/discount BM gives?

Higher speed surely will have higher RPM mah... although it's a bit strange that your RPM is at 2000 rather than a bit below... thought most cars now run at less than 2000 RPM at 100 km/h... usually if it runs at 2000 RPM, the tendency is that the car is a bit noisier...

I think it's normal at 2k rpm considering the load it was carrying n the torque needed to maintain speed. Certainly lower rpm when rolling downhill with max FC.

the FC could be due to i over inflated the tyres . Need to try other lower psi n see effect.

Hmmm... my understanding is that over-inflation tends to improve fuel consumption cos the contact patch is minimized... not sure if I understand it correctly...

That is what I think as well - less contact, less friction, better FC.

I beLieve there is an optimal point. Below n above will lead to too much or insufficient friction.

IMHO,  the optimal point will be the recommended cold tyre pressure. 

Of course with better tyres,  there is a tendency to deviate by over inflation.

Me same. Went up KL in Jan and FC 18km/l. Thought that it should be better since ever achieved 19km/l in Singapore.

 

I maintain 110km throughout the journey. I think the frequent ramming to overtake and changes in speed just kill the FC.

I agree. Problem is I had to pump tyre not at my regular station before the trip. N the pump said my tyres was at only 200psi all round n I pumped to 230psi (rec is 220psi).

I drove more steadily between 100-110km/hr on way back and FC was 19.0km/L until the road work before EDL. Rev was at 1800rpm at this speed mostly. Did not pump tyre at KL of cos. But refuel Techy 97 n this might helped.

 

I suppose I was rushing to KL n was more heavy footed on the way back more gentle.

 

I am not surprised the FC lowers at higher speed because the engine could just happens to operate at the less favourable range of the kW & torque curves at the speed n load it was delivering.

 

Overall I would say the drive was good throughout n able to overtake without too much effort for a 1.6L.

The same time or different time regular vs non regular station?

Time is also a factor.
