Highlight #1: Waku Waku Gate

ww_ph2.jpgww_ph1.jpg

Similar to the Twin Door mechanism found on Skoda Superb & BMW 5 GT, the tailgate of the new Stepwgn can be opened in 2 manner.

1. Normal liftback for full access to the boot

2. Side opening for easy access to the 3 row or boot

Highlight #2: 1.5L VTEC Turbo Engine

02.jpg2013_11_19_honda_engines_02.jpg

This shall be the first model in Honda stable to receive the newly developed 1.5L 4 cylinder turbo-charged engine, which power is said to be equivalent to the existing 2.4L VTEC unit.

A quick check online and based on earlier press release, the engine is capable of up to 150KW (204ps / 201bhp) & 260Nm of Torque. Ehm very interesting... ...

I'm a traditionalist and feel abit sad that Honda whose VTEC is amongst the best NA engines in its class has also jumped onto the turbo bandwagon, that said I guess partly due to the tougher emission standards these days.

This step wagon is a very practical car n those requiring this amount of space will find it useful but its looks definitely won't win any looks contest!!

Purely from these pics posted, that is one ugly vehicle. The outside really looks like a delivery van, especially the rear. The hole in front of the front passenger seat is simply that : a large hole.

Looks aside, that size and shape will be very practical and comfortable. Easy to load both luggage and passengers.

This will appeal to families.

Turbocharged

Honda should try putting the engine in the current Odyssey to see if it is really comparable to a 2.4l...

Odyssey 2.4 (specs from SGCarMart) : 129kW 225Nm

Stepwagon (specs from above) : 150kW 260Nm

Maybe the 2.4 engine is quieter, befitting the more high-end Oddy.

Their sales must be badly hit since now TC small capacity engines are more popular choices. Most likely the TC engines are on export models. Their Japan domestic market is still resistant on forced induced technology and more in favour of hybrid systems.

got so much meh [grin] , i doubt so sia , probably 150-170hp and 200-230nm

That is what posted on the Web when Honda introduced the 3 TC engines in end 2013.

For the application in Stepwgn, the figures you mentioned is plausible (matching the performance of the current 2.4 VTEC).

It is not just about sales. With the worldwide push for cleaner engines, DHL (Diesel, Hybrid & Lesser cc through turbo-charging) are the alternatives for now.

BTW, the Stepwgn is supposedly a JDM, and the 1.5 VTEC Turbo is the standard engine for the model, not just export model.

Hypersonic

For those who commented on the look of the car,

this car looks like any practical and spacious mpv on the market

All are equally ugly

But whoever buys mpvs for the looks?
