Eat, shop, massage, have TB cleaned for RM30 (brought own CRC cleaner), and for me, roll eyes at in-laws. Short drive to Pontian and Muar, with Malacca further north.

For a couple to retire in My with rm8,800 per month including rent but excluding purchase of vehicle, enough?

If budget increased to rm15k, what can I expect including rent and vehicle? No intention to buy property coz plan to come back Sg when old and not mobile, meaning cannot drive anymore.

Hi anyone who is now retired in Malaysia.  Like to find out more about cost of retirement in Malaysia based on personal experience.

I am looking for an experienced housing agent who has exposure to whole of Malaysia as I intend to rent, preferably a 1000 sf condo with 6 months lease, moving from one town to another starting from JB and all the way to Penang and beyond.  Will stay longer if I like the place.  During those stays, we plan to tour outside Malaysia, may be 3x a year, each tour lasting at about a month.  My plan will probably last 10 years or so before I stay put in Singapore.

Since my post in 2015, I have increased my retirement budget in Malaysia to no less than RM15,000 per month including buying a car on instalment.

Why don't you try Airbnb? Can nego a longer stay at discounted rate and not be boxed by the limited inventory marketed by property agent.

@Voodooman  I need a condo with 2 bed rooms.  The extra room is for personal use and in case I have guests.

You wanted stay at a place for 6 month each time, you expect the helper to move with you?

Without proper visa, it is hard to hire maid locally.

It is better to hire part time cleaner

My imaginary friend tells me that it may not be easy to buy a car on instalments if you dont have proper residency visa there .. car dealers/banks/finance companies must want to know where you are staying/you can be found (and have some income) to pay the debt ..

Full time cleaner that lives with you in your home lost privacy.

I think a part time cleaner is a better idea.

Maybe can just drive to the spa and let the cleaner do the body scrub and exfoliation and you will feel like a new man when you come out or feel a new woman if you are that way inclined.

https://www.trustedmalaysia.com/employers-guide-hiring-maid-services-malaysia/

The cost should be close to RM20k for the first year, mainly due to agency and other fees.
There are other restrictions too : need to be PR or citizen, need to show income of RM3k-RM5k per month, etc.
