efssc 5th Gear March 5, 2015 Share March 5, 2015 (edited) I happened to see the article over at STOMP, and realized it was the cyclist himself who took the videos / photos, and I have 1 question; The bicycle banged until like that under the wheels, and the cyclist can still stand and walk around taking video and photos and posting them on social media? Did he somehow manged to jump off the bicycle, did a 360o mid-air back flip and landed on his feet, before the Rush hit the bike? Or would it be possible that there were already some confrontation before the actual "bang", and the bicycle ended up being the "sacrificial lamb" (either thrown at or used to block the Rush, which then ran over it), while the cyclist is safety not on it, probably somewhere shooting videos? Sorry, I was not at the scene so I don't know what happened, I don't cycle so I'm not siding with the cyclist, neither am I siding with the driver, just because of his "face" if nothing else. But as another comment pointed out earlier, with the lack of details this is really starting to "smell" more and more like a one-sided smear campaign against the driver (of course, he did do 50% of the work himself by showing that "face"). Edit: oops, I said "1 question", that turned out to be 3, paiseh. Edited March 5, 2015 by efssc ↡ Advertisement
Pusiwagon 2nd Gear March 5, 2015 Share March 5, 2015 With all the hooha over cyclist and motorist sharing the road and getting into altercations, I always make it a point to keep my distance from cyclist, whether solo riders or a group. Even if it means slowiong down, and waiting for an opportunity to change lanes. Reason being that I am a hot tempered person, and since I know that if a finger is shown at me, I am likely to "retaliate", I rather take the "high road" and avoid aggro altogether. Curious about the vidoe - if the cyclist was filming the "arrogant" driver who asked him to remove his helmet, then who is the other tall lanky cyclist standing around? We don't know what happen, so we shouldn't be rushing to judgement - whether it be for or against cyclist, driver or anybody else. All I know for sure (because I watched the video) is that the driver was "pissed" that he was being videoed - so he pulled a face for the camera. Which is something that I can understand - to me, taking out the camera and starting to video like that is an inherently aggressive / provocotive action (of course, we don't know what happened before either - it could be that filming was justified because driver was being an ass, or it could be that being filmed turned the driver into an ass)

Kusje Supersonic March 5, 2015 Share March 5, 2015 Don't mean to fume, but bicycles have as much right to be on the road as drivers. I see many retards in this thread posting about how bicycles have no right to be on the road etc (cos they don't pay road tax?) Get off your high horse and stop thinking you're a higher class citizen just because you can afford a damn car. Roads are meant for EVERYONE, not just cars and motorbikes. I say this as someone who rides a bicycle on the roads, rides a motorcycle on the roads and also drives a car on the roads. I have 6 bicycles, a motorbike and a car. What makes you think that when I ride my bicycle, I'm inferior to you on the roads? It's a uniquely Singaporean way of thinking. Is it really so difficult to keep your wits about you when you see a vulnerable vehicle on the road? Keep 1.5m away and all is clear. Don't forget that when you get into an accident with a bicycle (or motorbike for that matter), the damage you suffer may just be a scratched bumper and some lost time but somebody's family might not have a father/mother/son/daughter anymore. Just F**KING bear that in mind and everyone goes home happy. Understood? Since you are a cyclist and motorcyclist, can you tell me if you keep 1.5m away from cars as you advocated? This applies whether the car is moving or stationary at a traffic light. If you are the kind who likes to squeeze through during slow moving traffic then you are obviously a hypocrite. These cyclists like to ride in large groups so it will probably just be one of his friends. They are not the kind of cyclist who need to bike from place to place as a form of transport. These cyclists are training for some competition so they can't afford to stop for others and think they are kings of the road.

When in a traffic jam, cyclists can overtake the cars that are stuck in the jam because the recommended safety distance for passing a stationary vehicle is 0.5m. IIRC this is stated in the BTT. Only when the vehicle is moving then have to pass with a gap of 1m-1.5m. I am a cyclist too and if the car is stationary I will cycle past even if there is less than a meter. However if the cars are moving I will just follow behind the car. Edited March 5, 2015 by Nzy

RH1667 Hypersonic March 5, 2015 Share March 5, 2015 I really hope cyclists should pay road tax and insurance if they are using the roads with motorists. Actually, I don't really care if they pay road tax or not. But, I really hope.....if they want to cycle on the road, they must register with LTA or TP and pass a high-way code for cyclist, and their bicycle should have a registration number that motorist / pedestrian can use to report to the authority if they are caught not following the rules. For now, it seems there are totally no enforcement except for the wayang show when reporters are around.
