Turbocharged

We Dont even give 1.5m space to motorbike.

Why is there a need for cyclist? Kia see, then drive pcn. Not on the road.

Last Sunday, around 4pm, saw many cyclist along Punggol to kovan area. Wearing number tag.....

They shd hold such event early early in the morning when there are lesser cars on the road. Not other timing.

Either I've gone over this exact point with you before (and I tire of repeating myself) or my sense of deja vu is seriously acting up today. Regardless, I'll say it for the last time: the presence of those signs may be less an indication of the LTA's approval of cyclists using that road, and more of a "bowing to the inevitability" of the situation because they can't remove the cyclists from that road without massive unpopularity (with the cyclists, who can be a rather vocal and self-righteous bunch).

An analogous situation would be the "Speed Camera Ahead" signs. If everyone drove within limits all the time, there wouldn't be a need for the signs. Does that mean that having the warning signs is a tacit endorsement of being able to speed when there are no cameras around?

Yes, and I've often thought the best solution would be for the gahmen to designate the PCN for the sole use of cyclists (with maybe a lane division, with the "fast lane" reserved for cyclists going over 20km/h). there are plenty of other parks and nice gardens that pedestrians gambolling about with baby strollers and dogs in tow can frequent. When that's done, the gahmen can (and should) come down hard on the cyclists using public roads running parallel to those dedicated cycling tracks.

1st of all, PCN is not exclusive for cyclist. It includes pedestrian.

PCN has always been an afterthought. It cannot accommodate hi + slow speed & volume. Juz look at East Coast Park on wkend. Moreover, it is design for leisure cycling.

Look at design of park connectors. It is always narrow. It feels scary cycling @ 30km/h even on a Brompton.

My take of this whole cyclist vs motorist saga is machiam like that of the eternal 男孩与女孩的战争 i.e. battle of the sexes.

There can never be a clear winner or loser so my 2cts' worth is to just accept it and move on. Seriously.

There WILL BE errant cyclists (yup yours truly encounter them almost on a daily basis as well) just like there WILL BE 脑less motorists on the roads as well (also seen many many until pui pui pui).

Cyclist often always accuse motorists of bullying them while the latter constantly claims that the former of being reckless on the roads and on even pedestrian pavements.

But as a motorist I am well aware that I am in control of a deadly machine which can easily kill so I better make damn sure that if I can help it I carefully watch out for the fit folks in their yellow/orange or whatever coloured leotards on their racers, weak elderly uncles or aunties on their ka-la-chias or impatient FWs on their bikes.

This is because I know in the event that I "touches" them my fault or not, the results can be, well, devastating.

Until smart soul comes out with a superb idea of resolving this quagmire, we have to live with it. Curse a little yes but just move on.

So peace bros. And sis as well [wave]

Yes, which is why I said in my previous post that the PCNs should be redesigned and repurposed for the sole use of cyclists, so they would have no wiggle room at all to claim the relevant law doesn't apply.

As it stands, the legal loophole exists, and it can be exploited by cyclists (like you're doing).

Let me ask you something: if they built a good velodrome in Singapore, would you (personally) take "fast cycling" off the streets?

Had a scooter in front of my car on my way to the office this morning, guy had his head turned back talking to his girl while he wobbled along at around 20km/hr and it lasted quite a while. Gave him a quick honk to hurry him along. He waved and they sped off. They made it pass the amber, I end up getting stuck at red behind another car.

Who knows a few seconds later there was a loud bang on my passenger side window, I wound down and there was this cyclist there in red-and-white leotard. Though he had his batman sunglasses on, I can tell he's not young, probably in his 40s.

"Hello! You horn me for what?? You got problem is it??"

Half amused and half still frustrated by what happened with the romeo scooterist I shot back;

"Who horned you? Problem.. prob-kee-lan!!"

He was taken aback for a second, gave me the usual middle finger treatment and rode off. I couldn't help but laughed.

To give him credit, he did waited for the lights to turn green before he proceed. I gave him his 1.5m and turned to look at him as I drove pass. He didn't even look at me. I sped off afterwards. [:p]

The most basic of things you do as a cyclist when at the lights is to position yourself where the driver can and WILL see you.

You stop in such a way that they can't help but notice you.

For Me, that means I put the bike directly infront of his hood ornament -

Naturally the converse of this is that once the light turns green - you get out of his way as quickly as is practicable and safe.

IF (and it's a big if) I cause a short moment of inconvenience - then I will "feel" for you - but sorry, too bad.

Just think of it this way - perhaps you get blocked for 20 or 30 seconds by the cyclist because he is slow or whatever - but how much longer would you have been stopped for had you hit him?

It doesn't give a cyclist carte blanche, but do remember they are extremely vulnerable - cut them a bit of slack -

Even if they are arseholes - it is your behaviour and emotions you can control, if you try to "teach them a lesson" the outcome is never going to be good, and you will never get the results you want, ultimately you'll just make the roads more dangerous.

if the 1st car at the lights stops at the white-coloured stop line, and the bicycle(s) squeeze in front and stop in front of the 1st car, then the bicycle(s) will be blocking the pedestrian crossing.

just saying.

There is a speed limit on the cycling lane in PCN. Why cant cyclist stick to the speed limit? My car can go up to 210km/h but SG speed limit is 90km/h. Can I tell LTA to create a faster lane for me? I used to cycle along ECP PCN and I stick to the speed limit, 15km/h. That time, I clock ard 60km average from home to Pulau Ubin and back passing thru ECP PCN.

There is a time and place for everything. Not suka suka one.

I am and motorist and an ex avid cyclist too.

Yeah.. thought he was funny as hell. But come to think of it afterwards, he must've been really stressed up and high strung to react the way he did.

I know guys who cycle to keep fit, but for this guy's case, not worth it if he develops hypertension instead.

Yo, shouting out to the cyclist bro in red and white leotard riding along Jalan Bukit Merah this morning around 8:30am! If you're in here and reading this, I am the guy whose car window you banged on this morning. Wasn't honking at ya! Take it easy man!! Ride safe and mind the blood pressure!! [thumbsup]

Bro think not all PCNs machiam East Coast Parkway got lane divisions or separate paths, at least not the one near my place.

Often you see joggers, strollers (humans & push ones alike [laugh] ), tricycles/bicycles (manual & electric), leashed dogs all trying to squeeze onto a narrow pathway of about 2-3m along Kallang PCN.

Of course when two or more objects, dead or alive, are trying to occupy the same space at the same time, collisions resulted.

One fast cyclist 夸张 crashed into, but luckily not wrapped around, a small tree right before my eyes before CNY while yours truly was jogging from the opposite direction about 20-30m away.

Didn't see how on earth why he wanted to RV with the tree...Heng he wasn't injured (or pretend not to be in front of many kaypo people already gathering around ) and carried on riding away.
