Aerosmith 2nd Gear March 1, 2015 Share March 1, 2015 hi, cousin got into accident, fully his fault. he rear ended another car. damage to his car is minimal, but damage to the other party is serious. boot cannot close, bumper dented with some cracks, bumper and headlights misaligned. just want to know, if he can settle privately, which workshop is recommended (won't carrot chop). another question, lets say the repair bill too high, then settle via insurance, my cousin wants to know what will happen. the car is his company's car and thus under commercial insurance. will his company premium go up? will there be a record on the company or on the driver? this record will be permanent? this record will affect future car purchase? ↡ Advertisement

Wt_know Supersonic March 1, 2015 Share March 1, 2015 (edited) just report to insurance company and let the insurer settle no point to settle yourself ... the charges would be high based on what you decribe nowadays ... just to change rear bumper, boot, replacement car, respray, change rear lights, etc - few thousands liao private settle is for superficial scratch ... ie: respray or little dent with panel beating ... Beehive3783 Turbocharged March 1, 2015 Share March 1, 2015 General rule of thumb, anything within the insurance excess can try for private settlement. If exceed insurance excess, no point private settle, because you still have your own damages to cover. thanks to all for your help. how much then we claim, how much then we settle private? do you have a guideline? U will never noe if the other guy play u out by claiming injuries or not. Based on the damages, not suprising if he claim
