Safety build up by various aspect combine together .

Safety features highlighted are factory fitted , where else those you have given are users's responsibility & behavior which are prevented through education, maintenance and precautions.

Factory fitted are those you cant change once the car is out of factory , even you can it besides very high cost it will also involve mingling with other aspect of the vehicle : ECU , harness , sensors ... etc etc

I only can quote Kia K3 at the moment EX and SX version , diff is 10k besides the additional airbags of course with other fancy features , but amazingly the OMV diff is 3.6k.

if this is made compulsory then all cars imported in must have the basic safety features as per those European country , before it is allowed to be imported in.

Then there's isn't argument against it .

In my opinion safety is much important than keyless entry , HID , moon roof , front sensor , rear view camera ... etc etc.

How about vezel? Other than it is light, but seems to have most features stated.

Agree!

My current car is the higher spec model of the same car just because it has 6 airbags and some safety programme compared to the cheaper (not necessarily more unsafe) model.

Having said that, we used to have cars with 1 airbag (driver side only) and no one batted an eyelid. I suppose we are now more demanding of safety features.

Its a matter of raising the bar for safety.

Yes bro, safety features being not so apparent, may not be as "sexy" as other visual features like design and gadgetry.

Ultimately, we only have A LIFE, I sincerely hope that none will never ever need to utilize the safety features in our ride, but if it really happens, most will wish to have all the safety features available to protect our fragile life.

I believe more and more drivers are acknowledging the safety aspect now, but for most rides, more safety features mean higher prices too, like the more premier conti brands.

Drive safe !

Not really sure need to refer manufacturer d , seems like not yet fully tested.

With all features not necessary 5 star , car design and construction also contributes.

Benchmark on a old related model CRV 2002 alos can get 4 star , HRV should be around there 4(min) likely 5 , better get the official to be certain .

True. Cannot find much reference except coming across a post about it being crash tested and seems to have quite a gd rating.

The number of airbags isn't the only factor that determines whether a car is safe.

In fact, poorly placed airbags may cause serious injury in an accident.

More importantly, it's also:

1) whether the passenger compartment can stay in shape

2) how much the pedal and steering wheel moves in a collision.

3) how's the contact with the airbags

4) whether the doors can be opened after crash

5) whiplash protection, etc etc etc.

Even Malaysian made cars can be 4-5 stars with only 2 airbags.

I guess not the "amount" of airbags that actually makes a car safer?

Actually ASEAN NCAP is rated slighly low because only base on 2 major criteria :

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) - base on 16 point system only

Child Occupant Protection (COP)

* Side impact only test as pass or fail only

Where else EURO NCAP covers more , with a total of 37 point system , and additional requirement such as :

side impact

side impact - pole

rear impact

and all points systems are combine to evaluate the points and stars. Which means you may get 5 Star at AOP but others didn't fare well will bring the marks down and score a lower rating, there's also point deduction if certain features or criteria not available.

Cars in Singapore had became so much more expensive than our neighbors (roughly dollar to dollar compare to MY ,; means same car likely paying 2.6x more !! ) , but should the user be discounted for their safety and downgrade ourself to use a lower requirement safety standards?! Since road user pay so much should we at least benefit from a higher safety standard vehicle, either way it doesn't cost the AD that much, typically with those safety requirement may just add 1 -3k of OMV ( maybe lesser as they also throw in other fancy stuff).

But if people don't care for the extra safety features, it doesn't benefit the AD at all. They might end up selling less cars cuz their profit margin is lower and cannot give that many free gifts. Worse if they have to raise their prices.

Already hard enough for them to sell the cars. I doubt they'll want the extra hassle of educating their customers about the importance of the safety features and then still got to convince them to pay more for it.

The one educating the user should be the lta, car clubs , car association, forum such as this .....

To create awareness to the public.

Enforcement should also take place for car safety.

Saw this interesting video kn crash test from China.

Video in mandarin.

This one may not apply to singapore. Both vw and toyota are made in china. VW was found giving worse quality steel which cause their car to fail 25% crush test.

The video is made after VW enhanced their A beam.

Cars in Singapore are most not made in China. Thailand toyota might have even worse crush test result...
