Surveillancevideocamera Clutched June 25, 2016 Share June 25, 2016 Wonder if the gearbox is the same problematic 7 speed dsg one? This is one of the key factors for consideration .... Spring Moderator June 25, 2016 Share June 25, 2016 138k with the moonroof? The higher end version with the sunroof costs $12k more.
Carbon82 Moderator June 25, 2016 Author Share June 25, 2016 This is one of the key factors for consideration .... Not sure if VW change it to a wet clutch type... Or, if they offer manual transmisison... Still 7 speed dry clutch DSG. Spoken to one of the SE, they are confident that the improves gear box wouldn't fail, but might still have little juddering overtime. Hahaha...
chuanyan128 2nd Gear June 25, 2016 Share June 25, 2016 Looks good, wondering they'll bring in the top end R line, looks even better especially the front grille and 18" rim. But I guess the price is too steep, at $150k for Comfortline, many may still prefer BMW 216 GT.

My dowager empress prefers touran. Haa Edited June 25, 2016 by yokechye
yokechye 4th Gear June 25, 2016 Share June 25, 2016 Info entertainment LCD screen is much smaller than the comfortline. I only managed to take photo of the comfortline version. Specs wise is much better than treadline with keyless entry, led headlights, boot cover thiny, better looking rims, and sunroof. BMW 2GT no sunroof

The 2nd row allows for each of the 3 seats to be individually adjusted, which is pretty neat feature. The 3rd row, however, is as tight as the 2GT. Carbon82 Moderator June 27, 2016 Author Share June 27, 2016 (edited) 2GT vs Touran, my view as follows, Space: Touran win especially in the 3rd row Features: 2GT as Touran Comfortline don't even come with electric seat Built Quality: 2GT, as Touran do have some hard and thin feeling plastic Engine: Touran as it 1.4 TSI outperform the 216d on paper and more road tax friendly Value for money: If we put everything into the equation, 2GT win by a small margin (will be a clear win for 2GT if space can be on par with Touran). Speedygonz 1st Gear June 27, 2016 Share June 27, 2016 (edited) Was targeting this model when doing my "research" earlier on since it has certain unique features that are great for families. 1) 33:33:33 second row seating. This is useful if you have two car seats and deploy them on the outer seats. This allows the caregiver to sit comfortably in the middle, while still being able to access both kids easily. I think the Kia Carens is another model that comes with such a configuration for the second row. 2) ISOFIX mounting points on all 5 rear seats. This is uniquely Touran, IIRC. This allows you to easily deploy car seats on any of the rear seats, including the third row. A big problem with 7 seaters is that once car seats are deployed on the outer seats of the second row, it's almost impossible to access the third row. Having ISOFIX mounting points on all 5 rear seats solves this problem by giving you the added flexibility to deploy the car seats. 3) However, the local version seems to have dropped some family-friendly features such as the Car-Cam Connect (to "spy" on your kids in the rear seats via a GoPro camera), Voice Amplication which projects the driver's voice throughout the car via the speakers and other passive safety features, e.g. Side Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, etc. Nevertheless, this still seems to be an extremely family friendly car for those with small kids and not looking to drive a large MPV around town. I went with the BMW 216d GT myself since there was a good deal for a certified pre-owned unit, but for those who are less concerned with build quality, potential gearbox reliability and more concerned with space and flexibility, the Touran might just be the better choice. And as a bonus, you'll get Cruise Control, which is surprisingly absent from the 216d. Edited June 27, 2016 by Speedygonz
Taneks 1st Gear June 27, 2016 Share June 27, 2016 Everyone has different requirements as to what is right for them..... I drive a BMW and love it for the handling, the stiff suspension, the rear wheel drive, sound insulation, etc. I remember a trip up fraser's hill once, I enjoyed the crisp steering and car handling, and the feeling of absolute control no matter how hard I pushed the car. My son and I enjoyed the ride up, my wife and daughter were both green in the face when they got off the car. On the trip down, I was forced to take a more moderate (read boring!) speed, and might as well be driving a van. However, the 7 seater is for my wife to ferry the kids, and also outings with my mum on weekends. The requirements are thus very different......Questions from the wife were: Is there space for the tissue box, wet ones, large drinking water bottles? Where can I put the umbrellas? How easy is it for the elderly to get in the car? Does the floor have the uncomfortable hump in the middle seat? How many storage cubicles does the car have? How do you check if all the kids have their seatbelts fastened? Ask those questions to your BMW salesman and the VW salesman and see what they say. I felt that the Touran checked off the boxes that matter to the family at this point (not necessarily to me).

I felt that the Touran checked off the boxes that matter to the family at this point (not necessarily to me). If the car is strictly to ferry kids and to go for outings with parents during weekend, then probably Touran is better. But I guess many families in Singapore can only afford one car and in this case, I will say 2GT is better for me because most of the weekdays, I am driving and the driving vibe is great. The fuel consumption is better too. So at the end of the day, really depends on what you want. If strictly on family cars with lotsa of storage space, grand c4 Picasso and Kia Carens are not bad too. ↡ Advertisement
