Carben68 2nd Gear February 4, 2015 Share February 4, 2015 Hi all, I've been a member of MCF for donkey years, since 2002. I've enjoyed the sharings, the joustings & of course the BBQs! Today, I am career job search & attraction specialist. But this thread is not to advertise my organization. The job market is not looking very friendly. I am here to help provide some inputs in any career related questions you might have. I'll try to answer (Along with others I'm sure) as best as I can if I know. Some Background 25 years corporate experience of which 15 years as a recruiting leader. I've led regional/ international in-house recruiting teams for household brands along with several years working in agencies. I've recruited thousands, interviewed tens of thousands and seen probably close to a hundred thousands CVs in that time. From receptionists to CxOs. So, let me know how I can help. Happy to... Cheers ↡ Advertisement

Kangadrool Supersonic February 4, 2015 Share February 4, 2015 What strategy would you recommend for those job seekers in their 40's. The problem is this group of people are mostly 'over qualified' in their own jobs, but most have plateaued. Even the more capable ones will plateau also due to limited upward mobility (there's so much CxOs and GMs we can have in any organisation). On the other hand, few employers would want to entertain them even if they are willing to settle for much lower pay. Hi all, I've been a member of MCF for donkey years, since 2002. Hi Kangadrool, For someone in their 40s, I won't advocate job search. I would suggest a job attraction strategy instead. Don't go looking for jobs and compete with the thousands, make yourself a magnet with your experience, skills, knowledge and talents and you will discover that recruiters will come looking for you. Start off with a solid LinkedIn profile, there are millions of recruiters in there just desperate to find the right candidate. The magic is how to separate yourself from the rest. That is too long a discussion for this forum unfortunately. The essence is not to compete, but to leapfrog. Regarding opportunity, a big chunk of such senior jobs are typically not posted publicly, so a strong network is critical. If you have not done so, or to put it bluntly, is not a high performer. And all you want is a job. Try www.indeed.com, it is a job aggregator and will pull in all the published jobs into one location. There is no short answers, or short cuts. But my advice is to always dig a well before you get thirsty. Hope it helps.. Edited February 4, 2015 by Carben68

1fast1 Supersonic February 4, 2015 Share February 4, 2015 (edited) Your linkedin hyperlink is wrongly formatted (it links to one's own edit profile page). Let me help you out: https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=4852716 BTW, aren't you the same Carben who used to have a pitbull avatar? I remember forming certain views about your politically-themed posts, but as this is not one of 'those' threads, I shall leave it at that. I do think that offering to help people out with free advice is a good gesture. Edited February 4, 2015 by Turboflat4

Hi there, Yes I was going under the pitbull nick but it got lost for some reason and some years back I had to create a new one. Don't recall any politically themed posts, but I did comment on how disrespectful some comments were on our founding fathers if that's what you're referring to. I actually removed my links. I read the guidelines and realized that linking is not encouraged but thanks anyways.. Cheers.. Edited February 4, 2015 by Carben68

Celicar Turbocharged February 4, 2015 Share February 4, 2015 After working for say 10 to 15 years, is it still worth it to do an MBA in terms of returns on that investment? Probably the topline answer is "it depends on industry", then aside from being an academic, which industry would give a person who has graduated with MBA the max mileage? ↡ Advertisement
