Before scrapping my car, I am also toying with the idea with Lease-To-Own and I am treading carefully before I come to my final decision. I see quite a few others also considering the same option and I can share that I skip the "want face" advice very much. If you care so much about "wanting face", that's probably the worst reason to get a car.

Conveniences (COE, maintenance, down-payment etc) comes at a cost. Even when we put two monthly payment side-by-side, you can still never compare apple-to-apple 100%. It will boil down to how efficient your car dealer is. The question to ask is - is the car dealer's service good enough to justify that extra monthly $200-$300? ($1,200 ownership monthly installment vs $1,600 lease-to-own monthly installment as a example)

If you're familiar with legal service or public relations trade, you will surely know this term called "retainer fee" which is the equivalent of a servicing fee on a fixed contract for an agreed period of time. If this is an acceptable form of business dealing in other industry, why is it not an acceptable form of business arrangement in car dealership? You will realize that the "wanting face" advice are downright bull.

Some advice here say - it all boils down to the money and circumstances. Indeed, that should be the main consideration. The last time someone talked to me about "want face", my only reply is go finish your bank loan first before we talk any further. Otherwise, talk to my hand. All in all, it's only a question of whether you're paying to the bank or paying to the car dealer. And what other services are included in that payment.

I think soon or later Singapore market will be like European market, which is majority lease but not own it, especially in Singapore you can't really own a car, end up you still have to scrap it and return to LTA, same goes if you renew COE 5-10 years, you still have surrender and you not really own it.

So what for you still have to pay 30-40% down payment and the money sure will burn out and get back nothing, why don't just lease it and let the monthly scheme will do, beside is included Road Tax, GST and Insurance, I also can have positive cash for emergency.
I saw some company provide only 5% or even lower to get a brand new car, have guarantee buy back value as well, gain insurance NCD, monthly as low as 1.1-1.2k, and also won't affect the TDSR, which can make my background clean to apply any loan for business or housing...

I have spoken with a SE from other leased company which did the same as per above.  In addition they can arrange to sell the car at the end of the leased period and split the profit 70% yourself & 30% company if the COE shoots up.

Sounds too good to be true.

My thought is  that you would probably have a few options depending on  the fine prints of your lease agreement.

1. You have to pay  the balance of the remaining lease.

2. You pay up an early termination penalty,  but for a 10 year car leasing program,  the penalty will be substantial.

3. You pay up all the remaining lease minus off the current market value of the car. But be prepared to accept a  very low market value  because the value will be determined by the leasing company.

The best is to ask the leasing company what are the options available for you.

10 years contract leasing scheme? There is such long period of car leasing?! Anyway, check with the leasing company the best, see what is the penalty of terminating the contract early.

10 years siah. The interest to be paid must be a lot. Can use it to drive Grab?

Call the leasing company to find out. Otherwise how to know what you signed.

Why sign in the first place? Such long term schemes usually sound very scary.
