hi guys would like to ask a qn.

is there much difference between PI and AD alphard?

recently asked my PI agent about it he said that he has customers saying AD alphard is in much better condition than PI ones but the price diff is huge. would like to seek more clarification if possible.

thank you!

Not true lah. All come from same factories, just different variants.

Alphard/Vellfire comes with 8-seater/7-seater captain seats/7-seater lounge seats, petrol/hybrid, 2.5L/3.5L, different grades, etc.

AD's version is essentially 7-seater lounge seats/petrol/2.5L.

Ad's pricing is high because its variant is among the highest specs. PI offers the full spectrum, thus can be cheaper or even more expensive if you getting the 3.5L variant. If you are ok with captain seats then you can have it cheaper by getting it from PI, else for lounge seats the price difference between PI and AD is not that much. And as recent as 24/6, AD was still offering free lifetime servicing for ultimate peace of mind, quite good deal if you looking at lounge seats variant.

Do not be smoke.

yes, 10 years free servicing... but not sure if it is inclusive of parts. better to find out more... at the moment, AD has an edge.

The lifetime free servicing sound like a lot, but actually only come to about < $10k only in all lah. For those looking to buy lounge seats variant, definitely another winning point for AD. But for those acceptable with captain seats variant, definitely worth saving the $30k difference.

From my research, there are drawbacks with lounge seats compare to captain seats, despite them being more atas and comfortable. There is a reason why those lounge seats variant have big chunky horizontal handles behind the first row seats - it is more difficult to access the lounge seats as some passengers need to use them to get into and out of the seats, especially true for older people and those not so slim people. With captain seats, just need to use the vertical door bars to plonk their buttocks onto the seats, whereas not so direct with lounge seats. Worst is those in the 3.5L VIP version as their lounge seats are most chunky. So do consider if you need to fetch elderly or people with mobility issue.

And gaining access to 3rd row will be more difficult using the centre isle as it is almost non-existence due to the chunky lounge seats. Would need to shift the lounge seat forward using battery power, not good for the battery unless engine is turned on already. With captain seats, the isle is much wider and usable.

So, there is still a place for PI in this business.

Morning Guys,

Can't wait to collect my new ride until the SE called me yesterday which ruined my mood. Hope to get some advice or thoughts.

I had booked Alphard SA from one of the PI on 02 March and trade in my Estima for $120K. Was told the new car will deliver to me on around June.

Well, there is a delay of production and the car shipment will arrive in late July. It seems like I can only get the new car by Sept as do not want to collect car during hungry ghost month. The SE called me yesterday to ask for early handover of my car. My current Estima trade in value dropped a lot and the car dealer want to get the car to sell quickly.

The car dealer will provide an older Estima for me to use (I reckon will be 2 months) till the collection of new car and will compensate me $1K. However, I am not comfortable with the idea because of health and replacement car conditions.

1. I have 3 young kids (5, 2 & 9month). My wife scare the replacement Estima is not clean and may cause kids to be sick

2. Condition of replacement Estima is unknown and may break down. What happen if they cannot provide another 7 seaters? I have big family and need a 7 seater car.

The company want to push me to early handover and was thinking to refund me the deposit at worst case. Anyway, like to seek some advise if possible.

A) Can I reject the early handover of car? It's their bad business decision and why making me through all these?

B) This is a CaseTrust accredited company. If the company decide to terminate the sales contract and refund me the deposit, can I go to Case and seek help on the losses? I will look for another PI to book Alphard but there will be difference on my Estima trade-in value and interest loss from the deposit.

Just a side note. I went to the company to talk about the early handover and saw the new Alphard/Vellfire has the T-connect sharkfin atenna on top. It is a Alphard SC and looks really cool.

Get back your deposit and book from Borneo motors. It's your safest buy

One option is to ask for more compensation on top of the 1k and rent a compact size MPV for the 2 to 3 months. That is provided you still have confidence in the company to deliver the new ride in Sept.

If the PI allows you to cancel the deal and would refund you the deposit, then you must look at price rise for your Alphard SA and reduction of selling price for your Estima since March. Granted the COE has dropped by 5k since March, but you most likely have to pay abit more now for the same SA ride due to increase by VES. Pre-VES the tax think was only 10k iirc. Anyway, the SA is selling higher now than in Mar. Forget about the interest loss on your deposit paid, negligible lah.

Actually the sharkfin antenna give me free I also don't want as it will make my ride able to enter less carparks from now as it is. Can always buy a dummy one to paste on if you think it looks nice.

This has been resolved. I had decided to upgrade to SC model and had collected the new ride. It's totally different driving experience from Estima..

Has anyone experience a 'knock' sound whenever you engage to Reverse and apply the brake? It only happen the 1st time you apply the brake. There will be a 'thump' sound seemingly coming form the back.

Can I ask able to join WA group to ask some questions? Have yet to decide whether to purchase it. Got quoted difference between X and SC/Z Model is a huge $33k difference... quite hard to swallow.

Wondering what are some of the features that can be installed aftermarket?

Finally took the plunge to sell the ride. Could have continue to live with this but its negative points are outweighing the positive points more and more. Some major factors are that wife has been complaining hard to do parking for a year already, FC has also been quite bad at only 7.5km/L on good days and needing to pump petrol every 6 days, car not enough seats to serve big family at home, etc etc.

Used the Quotz service but the final price offered came to only about 138k, much lower than what similar rides have been selling in sgcarmart at about 160k. After knowing our baseline of 150k, a dealer came to view the car but we rejected him after he refused to pay a deposit. Before deciding to sell by adverts under sgcarmart, went by Turf Club last Sunday to give the place a try. Ended up chanced upon a used car dealer wanting to buy Alphard/Vellfire for a limousine fleet, and manage to get a very good price for trade-in after getting a ride from him. All in, my loss is less than a year's depreciation after using my 2017 Vellfire for a year and a month! Whoever said 1 year old car will suffer depreciation of 20% to 30% of purchase price?! I suffer only 8%! But I know I am just lucky lah haha.

So my sharing is that if you intend to sell your ride, try to ask around for dealers trying to buy for limousine fleet. They need to buy used car because they need to get high loan, something they cannot get buying new Alphard/Vellfire. And their margins are big as they are using the cars for work. They are also more chin chye with car condition. The car dealer at Turf club never even bother to test drive. Just walk one round the car and that's it. Told me point blank that scratches are no problem as he will respray to black colour. And ask me to dekit everything I want, eg DVRs, TPMS, Ultra Racing bars etc etc. When collecting car also never check at all. Just do paperwork and that's it. This is really unlike when in Automart with the few dealers there offering lao sai price at <140k and trying to find all kind of faults with the car.

Anyway, will miss the days of owning this wonderful ride. Really good ride if it can serve the needs of the family. The past year has been nothing but good memories with the ride, minus the accident of course. Glad to have been part of this family before. Cheers.
