+ feeder bus + walking + waiting time, each trip can add up to nearly 1 hour

to and fro 2 hours, thats 8% of a person's everyday time

if can shave the time down to 10 mins walk to a neighbourhood school, can save 1.5 hours everyday

but if this 1.5 hours not used effectively also no use lah

I am just curious ... if your kid gets 265 ... would you have prefer to send him/her to RI/RGS or the neighbourhood sec school that is 10 mins walk away.

I have said previously, nothing wrong ... just a matter of choice.

That is why I say on paper looks good !

Got time better then no time.

Effective but have no time is more useless !

It's ok with some commute lah. You would be surprised some people actually enjoy the commute, can beo boys/girls and got more time away from home. Sometimes a person need different "scenery" other than the ones near home. I wouldn't worry about 1 hour commute for teenagers. Commuting shouldn't be seen as waste of time. i enjoy my bus journeys during school days....

same as you

i will break down the goods and bads with him, explain to him clearly the choices available

then i will ask him to make a decision and explain to me why he makes that decision

(i need to know what motivates his choice. if it is crap motivation such as all my firends are in xxx school.....)

if he chooses to go the further one, i will drive him there

i will carry the transport burden

last time, my own brother had exactly this problem

he pass the gep exam and had to go to a gep school

i donnot which school, i think is acs primary school

my folks are poor, couldnt afford the transport daily

+ also take bus there, probably very waste time

(must remember last time no mrt, only got sbs bus)

so my brother spent his weekdays in some kind of a boarding school

i have only very vague memories of this

Actually I find the commute more useful leh. For me if I am at home sure got alot of distractions. So when I was in poly, I used to use my 1hr commute to school to revise what was taught the previous day. If I was just beside the school that 1hr will probably be used playing one more game or watching one more show. lol.

I would also analysis the situation with my kid but the decision is hers. Btw, what would be your preference ... Rs or neighbourhood school with a score of 265 ?

To be honest,i won't let my kid have any input.

It's one of those decisions that parents should make. Jc is another issue.

u r rite, personal choice.

my ger aiming for RGS or NY which i shoot it down. reason very clear, RGS culture is totally different from her current sch. NY same culture but way too far.

so last yr, i brought my ger to see the one of the better sch in AMK and she got a shock. this year, i planning to bring her to one with the lowest enrolment in AMK.

my intention was for her to experience the culture n motivate her to work harder to continue on in her current sch for this yr PSLE.

to me, it is the sch culture that makes a different. she will be spending more than 8hrs with her peers so i rather she continue on in a sch which strongly believes imparting the right values to the student. i always believes "learn good takes 3 year, go astray takes 3days"

Is that how secondary school ranking is measured?

Think this is really crap.

A good secondary school is one that takes in a 200 point PSLE student and this student get less than 10 points for the 6 x GCE O'level results

Bottom 3 schools all have names start with the word "North" .

Surprisingly I know of at least 10 business associates of mine who own 10 or more properties each come from these 3 schools.
