My cousin go to gd sch and in the end suffer stress and depression as competition is too intense for her. In the end, results affected for sure. My aunt regretted enrol her into gd sch. Hence have to see whether the child can cope or not.

i went to one of the so called good schools

it had a positive impact on my life

but there are some other variables you must consider

1) There are bad eggs everywhere, pray that your kid doesnt mix and get influenced by this group

2)There is no replacement for hardwork on the kid's part and nurture on both the parents and kids part.

Children at a young age are like wet cement, once written it gets etched in rock so imho its worth it if you can afford the costs involved.

this chart may not be accurate. I know of student at 245 region entering St Nick... the lower level should be around 245..

they should come out with a school value added ranking

maybe like an index like:

median O Level grade divided by median PSLE grade

Does the MOE still give the "Value Add" award to secondary schools - last time they used to give,

I always thought that was the best measure of a school - how much you improve your students by

From the charts, it seems like some students / parents do believe in the "All schools are good schools" concept. Among the lowest ranked schools, you see top grades of around 260 choosing them.

I'm surprised.

The 260 and above are smart kids, probably with very high IQ. They go any school no diff, likely do to well.

some of their thinking is since all are taking the same O level papers, i might as well stay in a less stress and less competitive environment. But the student must be discipline to upkeep his learning attitude and continue to do beyond what was taught in the school.
