IMHO, I think carousell is like a DIY-cash converter. haha.

All second hand, cheap cheap nia.

After using Carousell for 1 month (As a seller), this is what I've learn about Singapore's no.1 buying and selling community, do you agree? please share your views too!

1) The demography of the buyer of Carousell are, disappointingly, mostly cash strapped people or students with little pocket money. Of course there are geniune buyers willing to pay the price, but they are the minority in the group.

2) It is wise to list your price higher that what you are willing to let go. Most often than not, person will negoiate with you are unbelievable low prices. You will type word "no lowballers" or "MIA" more often in than ever.

3) Buyers almost never read the description, so don't bother overloading them with info.

4) Items with alot of "likes" usually stays listed for a long time. Items with not much "likes" usually gets sold within days.

5) Some buyers asked questions that makes you wonder if they are actually serious or just trolling.

6) If you sell ladies cloth articles, there will be 1 or 2 jokers asking if it can be sold worned.

7) You get members following you but when you read their profile and items they sell, it's totally not relevant to what you are selling, especially ladies stuff.

8) Some buyers demand you to meet them at their convenience instead of your schedule. These buyers tend to think the seller is running a business and customer service is an entitlement. I usually ask them to buy elsewhere.

9) Buyers who fail to negotiate will usually use the ultimatum to bargain, like "eBay is cheaper, Amazon got sell cheaper, can buy x10 pcs from Taobao, Shops sell cheaper". I wish them all the best.

10) Carousell is for you to cut your losses, not to make a profit. If you are planning to sell your limited edition superman comicbook which had inflated to 100x the original price based on Market rate, you will have better luck with eBay or comic forums.

Actually there are quite a few "commercial sellers" there using as their online shop. Problem is carousell doesn't separate them from the private sellers hence sometimes got misunderstanding. Other forums have separate sections for commercial and private sellers.

for me, i have extensively used carousell both as a seller and buyer.  agree that there are lots of troll, demanding or budget strapped buyers.  but once in a while, you do get buyers belong to none of such a profile.  me is one example......there was once i called up a locksmith, after the transaction is completed he asked where i got his number from.  i said i found him through carousell, he said i am one of the rare ones who is so decisive and firm and dealt doubly quick.  along the way i have met a few nice buyers as well.  i would only say, we must be ready to meet a lot of trash buyers before we meet a good one......no problem with me on this, this is afterall a ground rule made common and necessitated by the internet.  no need to get too emo, just treat it as natural course of filtering and sieving out the good buyers.

as a buyer, i tend to meet less trash sellers but of course, we do expect sellers to maintain a higher level of decorum.  as a buyer, i tend to bargain a little bit but if they say no, i will either up my offer or just walk away.  don't want to waste both party time and don't want to trigger the emo in any seller.  the worse experience i had of sellers is those who suffer a sellers' remorse and changed their mind about selling.  i have no issue with that as well and don't begrudge them.  but some anal buyers will take issue with this and write the sellers a bad review.

my suggestion to all anal-yst is to stay out of internet and online buying/selling. [smash]

I use it too.. surprisingly it reach quite far.. i sold 2 bicycles to Batam. And they are not low ballers.. quite steady buyer even better than local here. Likewise my friend sold stuffs to as far as Jakarta. For a free platform i said it had served me well.

Seem it had improved through the years.

Importantly i feel pricing must be right and sensible. If not just waste each other time.

I feel a lot of low ballers are local buyers. I never had any issue with foreigner buyers, even if they bargain, it is sensible bargain.

I hope the locals can be a bit more respectful to sellers. They can bargain, but low balling is extremely disrespectful.

I only use once to sell off milk powder which was wrongly delivered to me... I order A but B was delivered.  Returning was a hassle.... So I just put it up and next day sold !

But I did buy a couple of used laptops during the CB on carousell ...  Cheap and fast delivery.

It’s about time - plenty of people posting 1000 ads with unrelated keywords . These people will try to get a sale and then procure the items (they don’t really own the product) . So when you search for something specific the first 1000 results will be unrelated items. The AI of the app is pretty horrible and lacks any checking.
