Mark van Cuylenburg, better known as The Flying Dutchman, shared this with listeners Tuesday morning, saying that he was going to be pursuing his own interests. His last show will be on Wednesday.

SINGAPORE: After 18 years of charming listeners with his voice, GOLD 90.5FM host The Flying Dutchman (FD) will be leaving MediaCorp.

FD, whose real name is Mark van Cuylenburg, shared this with listeners Tuesday morning (Dec 30), saying that he was going to be pursuing his own interests such as travelling with his wife.

It's been an incredible 18 years but life is about evolving, its about change and change has to be embraced. It's very exciting," said Mr van Cuylenburg, who will be signing off from the show on Wednesday.

FD started his career with the then Radio Corporation Singapore in December 1996 and had spent 17 years hosting Class 95FMs The Morning Express and over a year hosting GOLD 90.5FMs The Gold Breakfast Show.

Said Ms Erina Cook, Assistant Vice President of Gold 90.5FM, Radio, MediaCorp: Ive had the pleasure of working with Mark since he joined Class 95FM in 1996. He has connected well with listeners and he willingly shares his experiences and ideas with colleagues. I wish him a good break.

Vernetta Lopez will continue hosting The Gold Breakfast Show, said Ms Cook.

Will miss his morning show at Gold905 ....

Will miss his humour and wit ....

Good luck to him on his business and hope once he has settled his business, we can all see him back :)

He mentioned after making his own businesses run at a settled pace, he may come back to work in Mediacorp "as a retirement" job, not sure what he really means by this............ is Mediacorp becoming a retirement home or something? [grin]

This is inline with Sg's motto of active aging mah. As a rep from the National Media, he leads by example. [grin]

Maybe given his strong support, he can be a trainer for new DJ(s).

And do adhoc shows that are within office hrs at his discretion. OTOT.

talk c0ck. It's also a talent you know...

I always wonder , all these DJs , how can they think of so many things to say . Imagine having to talk about something for a few hours EVERYDAY for 20 years .

I remember how he first came into the scene. He used to "temp" (stand-in) for Aloysius and Bernard etc when they were on leave at 987FM more than 20 years ago.

I miss Anne Neo from 98.7 long long time ago.

I miss Roger Kool as well.

Wow, its quite amazing and touching to read that you still remember Ann Neo after all these years.

I believe she's left Radio for almost 20 years now. I will share it with her when I next see her and I'm sure she'll be most appreciative.

Ann Neo, plays Rock.

Yes she was the only true DJ that was into real rock.

Most people don't know the many hours and dollars she spent scouring record stores and paying for records out of her own pocket so as to bring both the mainstream, non-mainstream and classic rock genre to all the listeners back in those days....

Thanks for the good times FD and Happy Retirement

FD has been around for a long time and deserve the long rest. Seems to have some kind of shake up at Mcorpse, see many old birds leaving. Revenue is down, losing listeners, let alone capture new ones. To few advertisers for too many radio stations. The logical step is consolidate the no of radio stations. But chenhu says it is better to fully occupy the frequencies and lose money, than let some jokers come in and brain wash the people.

No Glenn Ong on 95.0 this morning......did he left the show?

Glenn might be away longer, see this article : http://xin.msn.com/en-sg/entertainment/celebrity/marriage-on-the-cards-for-jean-danker-in-2015/ar-BBh6198

With less than 11 days to go before the dawn of a brand new year, 2015 is shaping out to be an action-packed year for Jean. Even for someone who doesn’t believe in “planning”, she’s got a few milestones ready to be checked off her to-do list -- first up is a Japan holiday to plan and look forward to in January, next the 36-year-old hopes to “move to a bigger place with Glenn [Ong]”, her radio DJ fiancé, and then, finally, “maybe plan to get married,” said Jean, with a hint of uncertainty in her voice.

Sure thing Bro! Will definitely pass on your regards to her. I'm sure she will really appreciate the support that still lingers.

I always hold fond memories of following her around back in those days when she used to sift through records at the now-defunct Dada at the old Funan and also La Vanita at Peninsular, where she regularly got her rock mags and stockpile of tees and memorabilia; and worked with them for her radio show promotions.

Alas, the complexion of music of music has changed these days to mainly mass-produced, lowest common denominator hits; unless one is more a connoisseur of the less mainstream genres.

If I don't remember wrongly Ann Neo hosted a program called Rock on One right?

Yup, she used to be on 98.7FM but hosted the show on a specific time slot allocated on 90.5FM then.

Think she also managed to secure some air time for rock back on 98.7FM and would always find some space to slot in some rock hits within the pop-heavy playlist.
