Geniuspear 2nd Gear December 16, 2014 Share December 16, 2014 I planning to upgrade my rim size to 19" ( frm 18 ) kana sot by the vossen cv3 chrome rim, getting the replica 1 as only replica avail in 19 and original 1 shld be kan pua expensive lol. Any recommended tyres for street driving with good wet grip? My prev car on 15/16" so popular tyres for me was toyo t1r etc, but fren told me big tyres mostly another level ( price also another level ) Was thinking to do "staggered" as car is RWD so behind put wider. heard mark X very prone to fishtail even when driving normal speed so hoping wider tyres can grip well. ↡ Advertisement
Quiet 1st Gear December 25, 2014 Share December 25, 2014 U could consider Potenza series , like Re 002 or Re 11. They r really good tyre for road.
serenade 6th Gear December 25, 2014 Share December 25, 2014 Bridgestone S04, S001, RE050A give good grip but can be noisy and wear out quite fast according to my ownership experience. Toyo T1R is soft walled and so more comfortable but unless low-profile is doing to roll a bit during cornering. My favorite tyre is european made Goodyear F1 Asymmetric which to me is a good compromise of wet grip, dry weather comfort and road noise on my Legacy GT
ah_lim80 Neutral Newbie June 18, 2016 Share June 18, 2016 Hello, I'm intending to change my 19x8j offset 38 rims to another set of 19x8.5j offset 38 rims while maintaining my current set of tyres. Would my wheels jut out even more because it's 0.5" wider even with the same tyres.

MyFirstKar Neutral Newbie June 24, 2016 Share June 24, 2016 (edited) Sorry to ride on this thread as I am currently unable to start new topics (newbie). I am currently exploring rim choices as I am looking to upgrade to 18" rims. Have been advised to stay away from "replicas" due to quality/safety concern. After doing some research, this rims called "ATS Radial" has caught my attention. From the website, its a European brand with factories in Germany and Poland. Anyone tried these rims before? How is its quality and durability? Looking at this model, http://www.atswheels.com/ats/en/portfolios/radial/ Based on my research, seems like this is only one reseller in Singapore for this brand? Lastly, is a matte finish on rim less durable compared to a glossy finish? Thanks. Edited June 24, 2016 by MyFirstKar

Normally european made rims are much stronger n tough compared to jap rims.. But expensive jap rims always go for light weight. Glosssy n matt doesn't affect the lifetime.. It's how u take care of them. Staggered is a good choice for RWD.. Use 235/35/19 n 265/30/19 or 245/35/19 n 275/30/19. I woukd recommend Goodyear Assy which is made in Germany.. Good overall performer. Great value for money without compromising safety

Xoloto 2nd Gear September 18, 2016 Share September 18, 2016 Hi, My stock rim is 6.5j x 17 ET 49 using 205/55R17 and recommanded 18" is 7.5j x 18 ET46 using 225/45ZR18 Have been to some shops and most just mentioned 5 x 108 and was given a few choice of rims to choose from. But non of the sales actually mention anything about offsets. (altho I did not ask about the offset too) I had seen online of a rim i liked but it is 5 x 108 ET40? Would I be able to use it? Or do i necessary have to stick with et46? Thanks in advance.

Tire size comparison tool:http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire-Size-Calculator offset calculator: http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator Based on the recommended size, inner clearance will reduce by 1cm & protrude by 1.6cm. If 7.5J ET 40, will protrude by 2.2cm.

Changed to 42 (or maybe 45), problem solved. Right off my mind, one size up with additional 9mm offset seems a lot to me. But then again, this differs from car to car. Use the online calculator that David provided and measure the clearance on your ride.
Roberttan 5th Gear September 19, 2016 Share September 19, 2016 myfirstkar please google to ATS website you probably know more about their Company and products I think they come under the Wheel group call Uniwheel group Germany.(beside ats also have Rial / Alutec/ Anzio ) davidtch are you driving a French car (correct me if I am wrong)? I supposed your info is from Original Equipment OE wheels specification is what CAr maker recommended spec, most(not all) After market wheels don't follow that , aftermarket wheel maker wants to make the wheel sits more flush with the car. for tires size I will strongly recommend to follow whats car maker recommend (best)

Thanks. if I used the calculator correctly, inner clearance is 4mm less and Outer extends an extra 22mm. a) is there a rule of thumb +/- % of offset that a person should go? b) Other than fitting on the actual rim/tire, how to check if it will rub the fender? If on existing 17" and I measure 22mm and it is still within the fender, does that means it is acceptable? c) Any negative impact of going an offset other than manufacturer recommandation? Shorten lifespan of absorber etc? Edited September 19, 2016 by Xoloto

Shorten lifespan of absorber etc? just be aware that a different offset from factory spec will introduce camber change even if the new rim/tyre combo fits into the fenders significant camber changes could potentially shorten your tyre lifespan and affect the the shock absorbers ability to work properly you decide if you want to take that risk and go in with your eyes open ↡ Advertisement
