Car-sharing does not reduce road use

Something along this line:-

gf-sharing:- if every guy has one 'dedicated' gf ie not sharing the same gf, 10 guys will need 10 gfs, and these 10 gfs need 10 spaces to sleep (just like cars need spaces to park). If 10 guys share one gf, she only needs one space. <------ great saving of car park space in the gf / car analogy.

therefore car-sharing will save parking space. instead of 10 mscp, just 1 mscp will do.

as for road space ie road usage:- 10 drivers driving their own car each will result in a total of 10 car-trips. if these 10 drivers take turns to share one car, it will also result in 10 car-trips, same as the case of each driving his own car. if these 10 drivers do car-pools of say 4 persons per car, it will result in only 2.5 car-trips

Bro, 10 guys 1 girlfriend, the girl no need to sleep already lah!!!

Becum teksi Liao!! Operate 24 hours a day [laugh]

Bro Spring, yr example buay gam.

Different pple different strokes.

Some like it hard n fast, some slow and consistent.

Some like it day, some like it night.

Some like it all day long, some like it all night long, some like it adhoc.

And what if two or more want it at the same time?

Ehm, I referring to car usage pattern OK hehehe

Actually, car sharing is like timeshare

You buy membershit to use the car when you need it

Now there are quite some stuff that can be actually be time-shared

For example: piak buddy [grin]

A few chaps collectively buy exclusive right of use of this piak buddy, then time -share it among themselves [grin]

Car-sharing means the car will spend more time on the road and stay there longer. So if there are many cars that are in the car-sharing scheme means more cars on the roads that will lead to road congestion. Singapore is small so car-sharing is not really feasible unlike those in bigger countries.

Car-pooling dun really work for us is becoz we have public transport and taxis to cover that. For countries that are too big to have public transport to cover most areas car pooling actually works for them. If you have noticed ppl who car-pool usually stay outside the city area where they work.

Fm yr post, I conclude... back to square one. No solution.

W decentralization, govt is just bringg prob outskirt.

Solution are, maintain resonable population n improve infrastructure. As relevant bodies hv proven numerous time that they cannot achieve this, we shd outsource for solutions. At least it is cheaper. This solution is just taking a cue fm them.

You car can sit comfortably 4 person, and maybe 5 person squeezing a little. But oh, look you can still fit 2 more in the trunk, 4 more on top of the car. Wait, we can still tie two guys in front, and two behind. How about we add railings to the side, train 10 strong guys who can cling on to the sides ! That will be really cool 21-pax sedan !

Our dearest first PM of Singapore went for the optimum population, not the maximum population possible. 5.5M is already optimum. 6.5M, 7M, 10M, .. really maximizing space in the trunk and top.

For such huge population, HDB can build 60 storeys flats, SMRT can enlarge station platforms for super long queues, two couples can share one flat:- first couple works dayshift, comes home to sleep at night, second couple works nite shift, sleep at home in the day. 6.5m can easily be upped to 10m... [thumbsup] [thumbsup] Schools run 24 hours, day-sessions, and nite sessions.

Geylang maybe also 24 hours!!

Technically speaking, these guys who share must be of similar physical size, else wont fit too well. [sweatdrop]

You need to remember that the majority of folks here spend most of the day in office, so the car is actually used only during two periods: morning and evening.

Perhaps it can be a combination of the two, car-sharing and car-pooling. Morning those starting and ending at the same place share one car from the car-sharing to go to work. Evening likewise to go back.

Therefore those who buy and own cars are those who actually need to run about during the day (salesman, delivery etc). Office-bound workers use car sharing.

Its about team work:- out of the 10 guys, some will take her out for dinners, some take her to shopping, others just hold her hands walk in the park. No problem !! Just like car sharing, the drivers who share the car dont all go to the same place mah. [grin]

The incumbents will rule the day population, and the opposition will rule the night population. No need to fix. [laugh]

Finally, we have the holistic solution to our population problem!! [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

For some reasons, LTA don seems to encourage electric cars, diesel cars and electric bicycle. There are also electric scooters that takes less road space and can travel 40 -50 km/ charge. How come they don like all these?
