Hamburger Hypersonic December 12, 2014 Share December 12, 2014 That is on the assumptions that the queue for Tamp/pasir ris is way much shorter than the normal queue which logically speaking should be and the should be a sizeable pool of passengers waiting. Think about it how big is Tampines and Pasir ris add up? Sakali return from short trip end up no passengers in the queue. Not to mention ppl abusing the system. Don't stay in Tampines and Pasir ris but queue there. Once up the lorry sorrli i mean taxi, who is going to report me. Taxi uncle? he more than happy to send me further than tampines or pasir ris. I am already harbouring this thought even b4 is it implemented. true, true. both passengers and taxi lao to abuse the system. like who is going to monitor them after boarding. The passengers are happy with shorter Q and taxi lao dont mind too.

Volvobrick Supersonic December 12, 2014 Share December 12, 2014 To be fair to the taxi drivers who might have waited 30-40 minutes in the queue, maybe can impose a minimum charge like $12. Imagine a passenger saying "Uncle - Laguna Country Club"!

Kusje Supersonic December 12, 2014 Share December 12, 2014 Why does the passenger has to be penalised for the taxi driver's waiting time? Not exactly penalised but a passenger has to pay for the cost of the ride as well as a reasonable profit to the taxi driver. In order to get a passenger at the airport, a taxi must wait around 30 mins then that cost should be included in the fee (which it already is). The problem right now is that this fee assumes for an average distance which a passenger going to Laguna country club will not meet. The taxi driver will then make a loss on his time and effort. As such, the fair thing for everyone would be for the airport surcharge to fully take into account the lost of earnings a driver would incur for queuing for a passenger instead of having a lucky draw for the taxi drivers.

Already we have so many taxi fares for small Singapore. Do we incentivise by spending more money on the taxi drivers? The reason they are prepared to queue for so long is because they know of the greater reward they can get picking up airport passengers. Pay them for the effort to queue?? Wow. we already have KPI that include minimum km per day. It should consider taxi activity during peak hours including peak shopping hours. The moment they can 'disappear', waiting for taxi bookings during peak hours 'encourages' them not to pick fares during peak hours. End up passengers have to pay more. The taxi company MUST find a proper solution to this. One way is to employ some taxi drivers directly, if the number of taxi rentals are insufficient. Start with 10% and have them at certain locations of demand but shunned by the rest of taxi drivers. To be a cabbie, they should not be picky. To allow taxi drivers to pick the time to eat, rest and change shifts can result in certain times of low taxi supply. Then when passengers complain, what do they do? pay more money to the taxi drivers. How about more taxis on the road at these times?
Coolpica 4th Gear December 12, 2014 Share December 12, 2014 Wah lau, if like that the cabbie's face would be like a horse's! To be fair, most cabbies queued for a long time at the airport, hence don't blame them for pulling a long face when picking a fare to Tampines, PR and Changi. But that is a minority. But that is a minority. Please lor... Why do these cabbies queue up for a long time at the airport? They do that knowing that it's idle time while waiting in the queue, and at the same time can earn $3 more. So when they get a fare that goes to Tampines etc, they pull a long face. They want to eat snake and make easy money, is that the passenger's problem? No. Passenger lives in Tampines, is that his problem? No.
Waterh2o 4th Gear December 12, 2014 Share December 12, 2014 (edited) What they need is a Q for Tampines and PR and Changi area. Maybe a shuttle bus service for nearby areas. If I stay nearby and on business trip travelling light, I may forget about queuing for taxi if the queue is too long. But then if on business trip taxi fare paid by company no one will care so much and still take taxi. Actually should let those van-like taxi vellifire take passengers staying nearby, 1 shot can send back 2-3 families to TP,PR or nearby. Matoonia 6th Gear December 12, 2014 Share December 12, 2014 I am in support of having separate Q. it's more efficient and there will also be people who prefer to sit in premium taxis, so the premium taxi drivers need not worry. Many other airports around the world also got premium taxi services and there are people who take. For eg KL when I go to counter to book for taxi, they will ask if you prefer normal taxi or premium taxi.
Simplecar 4th Gear December 12, 2014 Share December 12, 2014 unfortunately, most customers are stone faced. It takes a lot of energy for service staff to initiate the cheerfulness, after rounds and rounds of facing the walls. I won't expect cheerful service staff (though it's a bonus); just give me the service in the most efficient and effective way. After a flight and lugging luggage, they will be stone-faced. nothing wrong with being stone-faced as long as one is not rude to other people. Maybe they just want some rest in the taxi. I would, too.
