Mustank Hypersonic December 9, 2014 Share December 9, 2014 My dad (deceased) had a Family tree book written in earlier 1930s by my grandfather (he copied from a very old book that had withered and very bad condition. . It shows my family tree dating back 500 years. My ancestors are basically slave servants and the offsprings continued to serve the master household for generations. Olden days, the servants have no surname, so they adopted the surname of the Master. The family tree only document the names of sons and not daughters. Each generation is survived by 1 son, as the other died (probably due to health or disease). Only till my generation, I have another brother. Each of us have a son. My brother and me will continue this tradition and preserve this precious book for our future generations. can take a picture and let us see? serious
Tigerwoods Turbocharged December 9, 2014 Share December 9, 2014 (edited) On my mum's side, one of my granduncles still go back to China to visit our relatives. Mum's side ancestors can be traced to some anti-Qing guerrillas who fled to the South. When I was much younger, I was told that some of my ancestors even dressed up as monks to escape the Qing government's pursuit (they thought they were Zhu Yuan zhang). How true this is I don't know but there was written evidence of such lineage of my ancestors and some of the surviving ones now in China. Alive and kicking. On my dad's side, I only knew that some of his ancestors came from Taiwan. I heard that they fought against the communists many years ago before fleeing to Taiwan. One of the surviving relatives was a teacher and at some point, a politician in Taiwan. But this side not so sure as I have not much contact with dad's side relatives for many years liao. Your ancestors maybe leaders in Tong Hua Huay ! Fan Qing Fu Ming ! Edited December 9, 2014 by Tigerwoods

Neutrino Supercharged December 9, 2014 Author Share December 9, 2014 Genealogy tracing is a tiring but fulfilling process. This is my ancestral home in China. See got great house, dunno about utilities and great garden in the front to grow crops. I often wonder if people would be happier living like that or in the pressure cooker of Singapore. I suppose those places are fine for holiday but not long term. But it does give me pangs for the quieter back to nature life. Of course it prolly wasn't quieter in those olden days with Clan wars etc etc,.
OmOm 5th Gear December 9, 2014 Share December 9, 2014 See got great house, dunno about utilities and great garden in the front to grow crops. I often wonder if people would be happier living like that or in the pressure cooker of Singapore. I suppose those places are fine for holiday but not long term. But it does give me pangs for the quieter back to nature life. Of course it prolly wasn't quieter in those olden days with Clan wars etc etc,. Sadly the house is in a state of disrepair because my elders had not been proactive in maintaining it. My generation is now taking over the responsibility of restoring it to its former glory. There is a lot of space for crops but plumbing and other utilities are of the last century. Everything has its pros and cons, pluses and minuses. Life is about striking a balance between nature and city-living.

Yuan 6th Gear December 9, 2014 Share December 9, 2014 Your ancestors maybe leaders in Tong Hua Huay ! Fan Qing Fu Ming ! Those are half truths (or a large part of it). I knew of an ex colleague who was an accountant and her surname is Jin. She is from China and her parentage can be traced to Aisin Gioro clan (last dynastical rulers of China). I always tease her by calling her "princess".
