too many issues happened to TW this year under Ma's admin.

1. CPL Hong was killed 6 days before ORD due to ill treatment. massive rally near the presidential palace.

2. 3 tinted oil scandals within 1 yr. TW people don't know what is safe to eat anymore.

3. Sean Lien too young to become mayor. should have start from the ground up. and his super rich background don't help too. young voters very jealous of what he had and what they don't have.

Not to mention also the gas pipes explosion..

Ma Ying Jeou has been developing a reputation like CK Leung. Take a lot of goodies from mainland China, but never seen as translating it into something desired by the common HK and TW people. Most people seem to see only the negativities.

The young people are really frustrated, TW fresh graduates paid much lower than graduates in mainland China. Young people continue to see elites - well-connected businessmen, senior civil servants and politicians (天龍人 - Tian Long people) taking all the wealth, and they are normally concentrated in Taipei (天龍國 - Tian Long country). The Tian Long do not breath the same oxygen as people outside of the Tian Long country (Taipei). The fall of Taipei is seen as the fall of Tian Long country (亡國).

The incoming Taipei mayor is smart to de-associate himself from elites and major political parties (DPP or KMT), campaigned as an independent candidate. The young people sees him as an alternative.

Without DPP blessing, he will not be mayor of Taipei.

But the taipei mayor neither belong to kmt or the rival. He remain neutral

On recent news, Ma is forced to resign as KMT head

Taiwan corruption runs deep.

Just not as blatant as other countries.

Taiwan and China is just like Ukraine and Russia.

Both parties are dirty. Their politicians only good at soundbites and populist comments.

Dpp win. U see in 4 to 8 years time sure reverse to kmt. Cos Dpp will have done exactly what kmt do except being anti China and gaining squat from it

Not surprise. Many Taiwanese not happy with the preside Ma. So vent their anger on this election.

In the past the northern part of taiwan belongs to the blue (KMT), now it belongs to white ( some say hidden green).

Newly elected independent Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (centre) joining hands with his relatives after winning the Taipei Mayoral elections in Taipei on Nov 29, 2014. Taiwan's premier resigned after his Beijing-friendly ruling party suffered a landslide defeat at the island's biggest-ever local elections.

Historic defeat for ruling KMT in Taiwan local polls leads to Premier's resignation

In a stunning indictment of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) party, Taiwanese voters sent its candidates packing in elections, handing five of six key cities, including the capital of Taipei, to its rivals.

It is a historic defeat for the mainland-friendly KMT, and on Saturday night, Premier Jiang Yi-huah resigned to accept responsibility. Also taking the fall was KMT secretary-general Tseng Yung-chuan.

Despite calls from some quarters for him to step down as party chairman as well, a grim-faced President Ma Ying-jeou made no mention of this possibility. Instead, he said at a press conference - where he bowed once in apology to supporters - that he had "heard the message from voters" and that he will be embarking on "reforms". He did not specify what these would be.

In the course of a day, when 13 million people, about 70 per cent of registered voters, went to the polls, the map of Taiwan turned overwhelming green - the colour of the pro-independence coalition.

Ko Wen-Je's straight talking style is really a breath of fresh air in Taiwan politics, which has been beclouded by slogans and empty promises. Politicians only say things like "piah the economy" or "better infrastructure". People have had enough.

(incidentally, Singapore's Chan Chun Sing also likes to talk about not falling for slogans: "nationalisation" is a slogan, just like how "minimum wage" or "universal healthcare" are. these things sound good, but if you don't have a comprehensive plan on how to pay for these things, and who to give them to, they are but empty promises)

a lot of Taiwanese media describe him majiam like god. hope he can really deliver what he promised and make Taipei a better place.

He will be digging into past projects of out going mayor and if there is any hanky panky, he will expose everything.
