No_worries 6th Gear November 20, 2014 Share November 20, 2014 I had the unfortunate case of being rear ended last Sat while queuing up for the traffic lights at a cross junction. As my car (Nissan) had a remaining warranty of 2 months left (registered in Jan 2012), I have decided to go to Tan Chong Ubi to report the accident. They gave me 2 options, claim own damage or third party claim. I choose the third party claim from NTUC (the other guy's insurance). But since the boot of my car cannot be closed, I am quite tempted to claim my own damage from AIG (my insurer) and from then claim it from NTUC. The Tan Chong Ubi guy has advised me to go for it if I want to repair my car asap (within 14 days of reporting the accident), but I am aware that I will lose my NCD (currently at 50%), have to pay the excess ($1000) and may be subject to insurance loading when it comes for renewal in Jan 2015. The good thing is, my car can be repaired immediately. Not sure what are your opinions on this. ↡ Advertisement
159er 5th Gear November 20, 2014 Share November 20, 2014 Go outside workshop. They will be able to claim 3rd party and repair your car immediately. ADs will only touch your car after they confirm the 3rd party claim will go through. No point wasting your time with them. Most outside WS can do the job.

Mcscot 5th Gear November 20, 2014 Share November 20, 2014 Go to outside workshop! I was rear ended by a Malaysian car ... 2 months ago. I thought I was going to be left high and dry but the Malaysian chap was decent enough to pay for the repairs. Your damage looks fairly similar to mine ... I was quoted approx $2500 (AD quote me $5K+GST). I will be happy to recommend the guy who fixed my car. Get a quote from him and he requires approx 3-4 days to fix. Reliable and earnest chap! PM me if you need the name!

If you can survive without opening/using the boot for the time being, You could ask the AD workshop to help you close it and continue driving till the 3rd party Insurance allows you to start repairs at the AD but of course this might take a while and also worry you accidentally open the boot meanwhile. This better option than claiming your own Insurance IMO but troublesome of course. I did this when I was rear ended recently but fortunately the 3rd party Insurance was pretty quick so didn't suffer for too long.

Eighttales 5th Gear November 20, 2014 Share November 20, 2014 you could go outside to do it. i ever got rear ended by a lorry once and i went to a private workshop outside. their business sense really good; as soon as i sent the car in, they prepared a rental car for me liao so i managed to get my bumper done while still have the use of a car for the duration of the repair.
GLZT 6th Gear November 20, 2014 Share November 20, 2014 Your insurance never cover loss of car? If have just leave at AD and go rent a car.
keanie Turbocharged November 20, 2014 Share November 20, 2014 TS, it's don't sound logical why you should claim against your own damage since your car is being rear ended. It's obvious that the rear party will possibly bear all cost unless it's a case of 50-50. AIG is a premium insurance company and I believe they provide a courtesy car or $100 per day for the duration of your car being laid in the workshop for repair. Also, if your car is under warranty, I believe, it's cover AD workshop repair too. I was once rear ended by a van at a traffic junction. He slow talk with me to have my car repair at his workshop and he bear all the costs though I had the option to report to my insurance company and had it repaired at AD workshop. Check your insurance coverage. Not wise to affect your NCD or premium loading. It's quite substantial. Good lucks.
Y0shimi 3rd Gear November 21, 2014 Share November 21, 2014 Simple Go to any ws that do accident claim. Do a 3rd party claim. What will happen from there: Ws will arrange for a pre-repair inspection. (Getting the other party insurance to send a surveyor down to take pic before any repair) Either you can claim for Loss of Use or Get a rental car After ws appoint their own surveyor to take pic for the report, they start repair Den the claim will begin. Either ws do a direct settlement or they will hand it to a law firm to do the claim for you. But must note repair cannot be too high and unreasonable as your car is old. Some might suggest total loss... depends too

No_worries 6th Gear November 22, 2014 Author Share November 22, 2014 (edited) Thanks for all your advice guys. Manage to send in my car to a workshop handling third party claims and got a 9 year old Sunny as rental. Hopefully the repairs can be done asap. Car workshop made me sign a form which indicates lawyer will be engaged to recover all the repair costs from NTUC (the other guy's insurance). I am not too sure if I would have to pay the legal costs though. Workshop boss also told me own insurance with AIG would not be affected. If the rear ended case is straight forward, 99.99% you will claim all, domy have to fork out a single cent at all.. only troublesome with season parking and risk with high access of rental car... Season parking at HDB is not a problem as it can changed easily if you have singpass. However, the excess for the rental Sunny is pretty high, at $1000, considering it is 9.5 years old and will be due for scrap in a few months time. Also, the condition of the car is terrible, smelly interior, noisy engine and transmission very jerky and rough and the thing about it the workshop told me it has just been serviced. It makes you appreciate your car more. Hah

Hehehe I thought workshop mostly give old cars one. The workshop I go to also all old cars available only. The workshop boss just buys cars whose COE going to expire soon then keep them for his own use and as replacement cars for these kind of third party claims. ↡ Advertisement
