Hankook and Kumho

I just changed to HS51, at Li Hong Auto (Bt Batok), they have stock for my size 215/45R17. For other sizes, you may want to call and enquire. This HS51 is at a very affordable price (at KU31 former price point and now KU31 is even cheaper), but performance I can't comment yet since the tyres are still new.

I was formerly using Silverstone Atlantis V7.

First impressions compared to the V7:

- Water dispersion is good, no sense of aquaplaning at all

- Steering feel is a bit dull and sometimes wanders a bit compared to the V7, which is sharper. I'm not sure if this is because the tyres are not scrubbed in yet. Have to monitor and further update.

- As with all new tyres, very little tyre noise, if not at all. Have to see how it goes further into the tyre life.

which tyre ws has this?

Kumho KU31 is used on thousands of Sonata taxis,

how bad can they be?

My car came with Kumho as stock tyres and worked ok.

Kumho is a big company they own Asiana airlines.

Are you sure KU31 is used on Sonata taxis?

Overseas maybe, but I have not seen KU31 on Singapore taxis before. It's all some rubbish crap brand.

Yup its stock tyre on Sonatas when new.

The replacement tyre is the cheap rubbish brand.

Taxis has such high mileage the stock tyres are long gone.

No. It's a little too far off unless you don't care for odometer and speedo readings. Just get a gps and 'recalibrate' your speedo, as if if the speedo is now reading 100 with 195/55 tires the true speed might be around 90. And of course your odometer will show a greater distance that the actual distance covered. Otherwise no other side effects.

I have used 235/45r17 when the stock is 225/45r18. As long as all 4 are the same the ABS/traction control sensor will work fine.

personally I tried Hankook V12 before. KU31 was fitted on my friend's car and I took it to Genting and back.

Between these 2 I would prefer KU31. Noisy? Yes. Super. but the grip is awesome. V12 is 1 notch lower. Initial 10k is pretty decent but later in its life the decline is quite significant

But in comparison to Michelin PS3, BSRE001, BSRE002, GYF1. quite far behind, in terms of handling, noise and wet dry weather performance.

If my car spec is 195/65/15, can I buy tyres with 195/55/15?

Thats ~40mm diff. Near 2 inches shorter. Ur speedo likely over-read by >10kmh.

Not recommended. Also, there will be a big lobang at the wheel arches.

Suggest 195/60. 615mm Diameter. 195/65 is 635mm in diameter.
