Sosaria Twincharged November 3, 2014 Share November 3, 2014 If opt for IP, it's through-train. No 'O' levels to fall back on. Not sure though if the kid don't do so well, can still opt for poly?? How without 'O's?
JaguarXF 4th Gear November 3, 2014 Share November 3, 2014 Surrounding me, those who are earning S$100,000 to $500,000 per month are not from GEP. In fact, many dont even have a degree. These business towkay share the similar traits. Absolutely hardworking & high risk taker, speaks market English and ultra fluent Hokkien. The only one I know of and who speaks a bit of better English is Neo KK from Neo Garden. Even then, he dont even have a degree or diploma. When you got too many degrees or PhD, you tend to take lesser risk as there is more to lose.

I'm from sec school with gep but i'm not in gep. Got close to them when we were in same 3rd language class at newton. Bunch of introverts who introduced me to dungeons and dragons But the ones making headlines today, from pioneering medical research, to the young ceos, to being on forbes list, etc... are all non-gep. The bunch of geps that i knew, from what i see on fb, have been ordinary for their level. Just a small sampling though

Roh96 6th Gear November 4, 2014 Share November 4, 2014 (edited) U can't generalize based on your surrounding observation. U got to ask what percent of lowly educated ppl will succeed in life versus the educated group. For every non educated taokay earns $100K a month, I can also quote 10 examples of non educated ones who are struggling to make ends meet. U get what I mean? Those without degree have nothing to lose so they will go all out to earn money and most of them will dare to try anything. Never try never know because limits, like fears, are often just an illusion.

Samshio 2nd Gear November 5, 2014 Share November 5, 2014 Hello folks.. Don't know if its good news or something more siong ahead... my kid actually got selected into GEP.. We never prepared him for this at all... we didn't even know he gone for Round 1 until he told us he needed to take Round 2 in another school. Any feedback/recommendations if this is actually beneficial for a kid? If it does, which are the recommended schools in NE area? Just got back from my holidays so that's why I am replying this pretty late. he's just finished psle and is graduating from the GEP program so I hope that I can help make your decision. I was surprised that he managed to enter the GEP program too, as he always in the top few in his old school, but not the top. However, he is pretty quick in thinking esp in maths and science. After listening and attending various briefings, we decided to opt for the GEP program. He transferred to Nanyang. The first year was tough. The workload was heavy, not but with those repetitive worksheets, but a lot of research work and really tough questions. Parents involvement is a must, especially if your child is not those self-motivated ones. your child will be among the best in SG, so do not expect to be in the top. in fact the test results will drop to around 70-80% scores. However, the program is very rich. They will be exposed to a lot of new and different things like research, reports, creative writing, etc. This will be good for them in the secondary/JC/uni life. If you want to do well in PSLE, mainstream primary is better. GEP will not prepare them until mid-year P6. However, if you child enjoys learning new things, challenging himself, and working with peers who are quick thinking and 'smart' then the GEP program is very rich and rewarding.
GLZT 6th Gear November 5, 2014 Share November 5, 2014 I think parents with gifted kids should take further steps to cultivate their child, let them be more exposed to things in the world. Hopefully they can develop interest in things that can advance mankind technology and knowledge. I think its a waste if parents educate them to take up things like finance, be banker etc. But then again we live in a society that emphasize on money so much.

Really happy, like strike toto... but I never strike toto before though My kid is in GEP. Choose your school wisely, if not already in a GEP school. There are 9 to choose from. Workload is heavy. Many don't have time for tuition. Due to the heavy workload, it will be soon before those who get into the GEP program via GEP tuition will be identified and attrited. One have to a 'natural' otherwise very difficult to cope. I can't even understand some of the stuff they do. Parents normally can't help much at that level. Briefing by MOE will tell you more. MOE briefing will also tell you that GEP kids are, errrrrrrrrrr, "wierd". Yes, they are different from other kids. Good thing is that there are very little school books to buy as there are no books out there to cater to the programme. Worksheet and notes will be given by MOE. The kids will need files for the notes, wait for instructions by teachers. https://www.moe.gov.sg/faq/education/gifted-education-programme/gep-schools Edited November 2, 2017 by Flying_genie
