Scion Turbocharged October 29, 2014 Author Share October 29, 2014 (edited) oh yah, you are right... another thing i'm surprised is that hawker centres are also being leased for 20, 30 years when the leases are up, the government has the right to take back the lands and sell them to private developers to build condos and shopping malls former Seletar market (become Greenwich) and Lakeview hawker centre (site still empty after 20 years) come to mind i always thought that these are public amentities for the good of the people, shouldn't have commercialised them at all tell you something.....the farm were never owned by the owners/farmers....actually its owned by the government! They are the biggest landlord! Edited October 29, 2014 by Scion ↡ Advertisement

Volvobrick Supersonic October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 This tengah new town project really spoilt the greenery and tranqulity life in that area. If current lim chu kang area is also going to develop into housing, i really dont know where to find greenery in sg liao? Bolehland....we already kena asked to retire there liao. And causeway charges increased to discourage these uprootees from coming back Singapore to too often!
Tianmo Hypersonic October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 I don't agree to house our military fighter jets, aircraft all in One location. If ever there is a war, the enemy will just drop one bomb on Changi and it will cripple our air defense and remove the most formidable power during war. Why can't they build airbase it in Sentosa and Marina bay if kena bomb there everyone happy the casino gone. You do know that we have fighter planes and troops overseas at every one time right???........................

Evillusion Supersonic October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 this remember Singapore website is very good hope they build some kind of statue or something to remember Mr Neo Tiew so that the younger generation will know the histroy of the palce Neo Tiew Estate In Lim Chu Kang, there is a small public housing area known as Neo Tiew Estate (or Lim Chu Kang Rural Centre). The whole area was en-bloc in 2002, with the residents shifted to Jurong West. The estate was vacated since then, and is currently used for FIBUA (Fighting in Built-Up Areas) trainings by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). Neo Tiew (1883-1975), who had the estate and road named after him, was a pioneer in the development of Lim Chu Kang. He was heavily involved in developing roads and setting up schools, power stations and clinics in the area. Neo Tiew set up the first mini-mart called Nan He Mini-Mart at Nan He Village, Lim Chu Kang, to supply daily necessities to the families of the farmers and fishermen in the vicinity. He also established a school named Qi Hua in order to provide lower and upper Primary education for their children. For his effort and contributions, Neo Tiew received the Order of the British Empire from the colonial government. During World War II, Neo Tiew mobilised his fellow patriots to assist the British in the defense of Lim Chu Kang and Kranji. Sadly, 35 members of his family, including a 2-month-old baby, were massacred by the Japanese in 1942. Built in 1979, there are three 3-storey flats in the estate, numbered 3 to 5. The abandoned flats are accompanied by a wet market and a playground. Lacking maintenance, the flats are left with dirty walls with paint peeling off and rusty windows. Overgrown bushes nearly cover the entire neighbourhood. Note: Visitors must exercise caution not to venture into the compound during a military drill. ya...i still remember this area.....everytime after exercise, fibua and fofo our tonner will pass by this area...quite bustling during the 80s with residents buying vege and produced at the market from the surrounding area. It had an old ambience charm to it....too bad the residents were relocated. There was also another hdb cluster at Ponggol and at the junction of Yio Chu Kang and Jln Kayu i think it was Seletar.....both had the old charm.

Kangadrool Supersonic October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 It's a waste! But, I guess by "relocating" these farms, more revenue will be generated. Helps in the GDP. ↡ Advertisement
