Turning a Router into a Bridge

Supposedly yes. My old one is 7500. Was going to use the 7500 as repeater or access point or booster...whichever is the right term to it. But Iâve already set the 8100 as the new router using that Linksys apps.

Then I used the laptop to change the mode to bridge- I guess (as suggested by Ender) the 8100 is now a bridge with no IP address.

Press down the buttons on the 8100 and factory reset it.

The 8100 is not a bridge. Its your main router. Set it up with your laptop first as your home main network.

Then when u are done, connect the 7500 to 8100 via lan. Then u access the 7500 router (different ip address from the 8100 main router one). Then u set it up as a wireless access point.

OK glad that u got the 8100 up then.

Yes. The aim is to use 7500 in the study room to boost WiFi signal in other bedrooms.

thanks to Ender...I got the 8100 to work again. Typing this using that router now. Enough for 4 hours of itchy backside for the day. I shall tackle the setup again another day. I think I know how it should work liao.

Thanks all for the valuable inputs thus far.

Ya, your 8100 is back to router mode.  don't change it back bridge mode ever since it's the gateway to internet.

Setup only your 7500 to whatever mode the bros here suggest. I am not too sure on this part too.  If you ever kenna lock out of the setup page, then just press the reset button again  to go back to default. Becoz once it's "IP-less", no way to access setup page.

Yah. That’s what I thought I should have done when Andrew asked me if I’ve connected the two routers with the cable...

OK. If u want to set up the 7500 subsequently. Plug the lan cable between the two.

U should first be sure what location/IP address this 7500 has versus your 8100 router. 192.x.x.5 for example.

Get this very clear in your head. If your 8100 default ip address is 192.x.x.1, then your 7500 router settings ip address will be different.

Then access the 7500 to set it as bridge or 2nd wireless access point (if u keeping the lan cable between the two) or wireless repeater (if there's no lan cable between).

That's the general concept.

Ironically, I itchy again and just connected the 7500 with the lan cable from 8100 and power up. I can now choose between two WiFi to use anywhere in the house. Weird but I’ll take it nonetheless. Happy Sunday after all.

It's not. Thats how it works. Some routers can mesh together into one network. But the default is like that.

My room router (same as your 7500) is lalaroom. My living room network is lalanest.

You should still be able to access your main router via the secondary network.

But I manually switch my hp between the networks depending on where I am in the home.

If you set your 7500 to wireless repeater mode without lan cable, should be single network.

Oh, didn’t know about the mesh part...

Now that all my devices (12 in total) in the house can be used with negligible lag - I can even watch soccer on YT fluidly - all are happy
