Quantum 5th Gear October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 (edited) But still NA right? For NA engine the peak torque is only achieved at a certain rpm, usually 4000rpm. For a Turbo engine, the peak torque is churn out in a range, usually 2000rpm to 4500rpm. Hence a Turbo engine is typically more efficient on the usage of its torque hence excel in pickup and Sprint. NA engine typical handles high end torque more efficiently at higher speed, which is usually above 90kmh. Anyway how much are they offering for the Mazda 3 2.0? Sgcarmart haven't listed the price. in singapore congestion road, turbo engine cause obviously jerk while TC cut in/out, NA more smooth, But Turbo is overtaking advantage while driving on malaysia fedration road Edited October 29, 2014 by Quantum ↡ Advertisement
Kxbc Turbocharged October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 My shortlist is now down to Sylphy SSS and Mz6 (2.0). I had tested both more then once and I felt the SSS ticked more of my boxes. I still feel the Mazda 6 is a very good and highly recommended car, if my own criteria changes. My subjective opinions base on my own criteria. I welcome forumers to critique me and advise me why the Mazda 6 is the better purchase for me. - Looks I used to be a Mazda Kodo design lover, love the CX-5 and 6 to death. More than 1 year on, the kodo looks no longer appeal to me. I still think it is nice, looks sexy for a while but in the long run, the conventional looks of the Sylphy suits me better. I really prefer unasumming looks. Don't like to attract attention. Feel more comfortable driving a Sylphy to Malaysia than a Mazda 6. - Power, torque and gearbox I tested both cars more than once. If blindfolded, i would honestly have thought the mazda 6 has the cvt. I think the turbo and torque on the SSS really ticked the box for me here. (I have 7.5 years of cvt driving on my honda jazz, I know what the cvt feeling is). I believe there is stigma of cvt but turbo really seems to mask out its effects. I don't see many actual owners of forester turbo complaining of cvt. The SSS was the only one that gave me the adrenalin push when accelerating, after having tested Accord and Mazda 6 (all 2.0). I am not a racer and don't push corners. I just would like to have power to accelerate when necessary (carry loads, uphill, malaysia driving, etc). I did not test handling or observe any difference between the cars i tested. Don't worry, i am definitely a safe driver, 10 years clean record. I could buy the Sylphy 1.6 NA but its not fun to drive. - Internal comfort The Mazda 6 is not really spacious internally given its external size. Thats why the mazda 3 was never a consideration, don't want my family to squeeze during long trips. I felt more comfortable sitting in the driver as well as rear seats in the SSS. The factory fitted seats (zero gravity) are really good. The Sylphy boot is good also, big and deep. - Money. Mazda 6 is more expensive even for the lowest model, if taking into consideration the cevs of 10k. Mazda has higher profit margin even though omv is lower at 19k+ vs SSS at 20k+. With cevs, you get back 5k+ less after scrap. And of cos, road tax. I find myself having very different feelings compare to most other forumers here, but it is my true feelings. Is it becos I am very inexperienced with cars? Only been driving a 81hp cvt jazz for the past 7-8 years. So please advise me to buy the Mazda 6 and not the SSS, with reasons. Thanks. if one of your consideration is space for your family, try the new qasqhai. i test drove both the qasqhai, mazda 3 and mazda 6. Mazda 3 - heavy body, small engine, acceleration seems worse than my Latio CVT which I had driven for many years. Mazda 6 - definitely more powerful than the 3 but i feel that it takes some effort to move the heavy body. i also feel a bit "gook" inside the car. maybe it is just the dark cabin colour. qasqhai - feel that it is more responsive than the mazda 6 in terms of acceleration. choosing between mazda 6 and qasqhai at the moment. not considering slyphy as it is just a slightly bigger Latio. same as you, i am not a fast driver but i would like to have the power to accelerate and move ahead when i need the power. i prefer sleeper looking cars which does not scream "look at me". I actually like the appearance of the skoda vrs. sedate looking sedan (not in bright blue of course) but with a 2.0l tc engine.
Columbian78 6th Gear October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 (edited) I decided against a SUV after having driven a RAV4 in Perth recently. I didn't think it gives me a good view like what people said. It gave me the feeling like i have many blind spots around and underneath me, especially maneuvering in tight spaces and parking. I concluded that I prefer a normal 1.5m high car. For SUV I was deciding between CRV and CX-5. CRV has the best interior space in its class. CX-5 is the most fun to drive. I didn't test Qashqai cos i felt the interior space isn't good. The boot feels small. But I think it is a very good modern suv with many features. I also like the octavia and its vrs since the previous gen. To me a Skoda is the ultimate sleeper car here. But I can never buy a Skoda in sg as I am someone who depends on AD support. Maybe if I am living in EU. if one of your consideration is space for your family, try the new qasqhai. i test drove both the qasqhai, mazda 3 and mazda 6. Columbian78 6th Gear October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 Yah, forgot to highlight this, Thanks. Can expect the Sylphy SSS to have resale value no more than the NA version. Also, buying now might make one the first consumer in the world to purchase this model. I said this cos I still cannot find the model anywhere else in the world by searching internet. I am refering to the Sylphy/Sentra/Pulsar/Tiida Sedan with 1.6 DIG Turbo engine. It's ok to like a car that's not popular. hah just don't expect a good trade in price next time

I like it's understated look as well. Based on the latest price, their margin is just 20k. Though BM's margin is sub 20k for the camry. I agree with the space part for the mz6. Not big enough for me. Columbian78 6th Gear October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 I liked the Accord also. Unfortunately it is the highest priced among its competitors, though it is not really the fault of Kah motors. Mazda has higher margins. The OMV is 28k+ and it was priced at 161k before the last coe round. After that, Kah surprisingly raised the price by 5k even though the other ADs didn't raise for Cat B cars. Don't understand why, are they trying to earn more? I struck off the Accord from my shortlist after a visit to the showroom and 2 rounds in the car. It was probably the bad experience with the sales person whom didn't seem to take me seriously as an accord buyer. I'm 36 and look younger than that. The sales was all the time trying hard to entertain me while playing with her phone and telling me about her mother in law stuffs. WTF? Also, I did not feel comfortable sitting in the Accord cockpit. The seats somehow did not gel around me and the foot parking brake lever felt like a monster around my left foot. Otherwise, the interior is really spacious and nice. Features also good. Yah, i concluded then that I cannot have a foot parking brake. But Kah gave me the best trade in for my old jazz, not sure if this is the "special trade in" for honda owners. Yes it has the highest depre of all the cars I've seen. But really the car cost is the highest. Their basic car cost is 141k already. Don't think they will go below this margin of 20k. in fact it's probably the lowest margin they have across their entire range of cars. I'm not a fan of foot parking brake. But LL have to accept it lol. I've met 3 Honda SE so far. 1 youngster. 1 ok. Only 1 i considered good but he showed me the ody then. Ha, accord seats are never wrap around. True. But it has the most options to change the seat anywhich way u want. It's 161k last COE period IF u trade in your vehicle. Lala81 Hypersonic October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 Coming back to the SSS, what's the real price (post discounts)? Don't see it mentioned.
Columbian78 6th Gear October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 137800, 6 bids non guranteed, take in house loans and insurance. 5 years warranty, 3 free servicing. These are the standard terms as printed in the pricelist. I believe can bargain if willing to "commit". Maybe bump to 2 bids guranteed, since the profit margin is close to 20k? Maybe bump to 2 bids guranteed, since the profit margin is close to 20k? well i have to say it's a pretty steep depre for a slyphy. My friend bought the Audi A3 Sportback recently for 143k. Depre of 13.3k/year. Though its just a 1.4 TSI with only 116 bhp on paper. But since u want power in an understated car (and u leaning towards japanese) ... the list is short. This car reminds me of the 1.8L Mit lancer turbo. My friend bought one. Edited October 29, 2014 by Lala81
Pocus Turbocharged October 29, 2014 Author Share October 29, 2014 in singapore congestion road, turbo engine cause obviously jerk while TC cut in/out, NA more smooth, But Turbo is overtaking advantage while driving on malaysia fedration road That only if you have a high cc 2.0l and above engine with a big turbo that churn out 1.5bar peak boost. The turbo lag with be very obvious. But for a small cc engine and a turbocharger max out at barely 0.5bar peak boost, you can't even feel the turbo kick in, not to mention the lag, esp if max torque hits early from 1500 to 2000rpm.
350z 3rd Gear October 30, 2014 Share October 30, 2014 I test drove the SSS today, was pleasantly surprise by the lively pickup...need to hit 3,000rpm to feel the turbo kick in...pulls away quite nicely...0-150km/h no problem... But interior looks humble...no paddle shift... Harsh ride for back passenger. 190bhp @ $135k A3 sedan pick up adequate for a 1.4T, but breathless after 130-140km/h...slightly better interior. 120bhp @ $135k Other Jap rides w/o turbo are not direct competitors...

Columbian78 6th Gear October 30, 2014 Share October 30, 2014 Hi, regarding the harsh ride for back passenger, did you or someone sat at the back and felt the harshness? Please share more details. I never had the chance cos I am the one driving, but my wife did said it was bumpy at the back. But she said the same for the NA sylphy as well and I thought that was supposed to be a comfort car. Audi A3 sedan omv is 27k+, how to sell for below 140k? Anyway, it is too physically small, cannot compare. Same clutch problem happened for the A1 too.
