Turbocharged

Nissan brought in the Slyphy SSS which spots a 1.6 turbo engine with 190ps and 240nm.

Due to the weight it's not really a sprinter but produced a decent 8.4sec century sprint.

Anyone interested?

I would if the SSS looked like this:

But still I might give it a test drive. Who knows it might be a nice drive.

Unless the turbo version comes with better handling parts, I will save the premium over a regular Sylphy and spent it on bodykits to look like the first pic :)

went to Tan Chong at Bukit Timah on Saturday at noon after i saw the half page ad in the papers. But no car there! they sold the car and can only be viewed at Leng Kee. Marketing Campaign fail.

Although not mentioned by TC, the turbo version does come with slightly tweaked suspension and a manual shifter in it's CVT gearbox, no paddle shifters though. But then how this car handles it's still a mystery. only a test drive can tell. The standard slyphy are built for comfort and ain't exactly sporty drives.

Its a SSS with dig-t turbo engine, not Nismo.

I checked it out recently. Let me gurgle out what I can remember.

OMV about 20k+

Suspension and brake systems no difference from 1.6 and 1.8 normal versions

Comes with a large touch screen system

Factory fitted leather seats are the same as the teana,s some zero lift thing. Comfortable. The 1.6/1.8 normal versions seats are local fitted and not as good.

No paddle shifters, only manual shift using gear lever

Similar CVT gear as the 1.6/1.8 but with manual shifting

Has vehicle stability control and cruise control.

The car is naturally much faster than the 1.6/1.8 normal versions, the cvt feeling isn't there. But can't really test much else as test drive circuit is limited. I think this car appeals to those that are into unasumming car as the Sylphy is a typical uncle family car. Its still quite comfortable but can go fast.

At the price point, can consider other 2 litre jap cars like Mazda 6. But 1.6 has less road tax over the years and it does not suffer from CEVS penalty (U lose the parf rebate in later year).

Frankly I am quite interested in the SSS. Only concern I have is the long term reliability of an unknown package. The engine and the car themselves are not new. But the engine in Sylphy sedan seems to exist only in Singapore however I search. Resale value definitely will be a concern later.

actually i prefer gear stick + / -, feels more "manual".

if suspension n brake set up not enhanced, or chassis stiffness (by adding arb, sb, lab), no meaning to TC-ing. resale value may b closer to NA versions due to demographic of sylphy buyers.

btw, hopin toyota do the same to their altis?

But paddle shift give better control, because your left hand no need to leave the steering wheel.

perhaps, but i'm used to gear shift, even my previous ride came w paddle shifter. for me, it's easier to remember gear stick position of + / - than paddle shifter + / -.

btw, the price is a turn off - http://www.nissan.com.sg/vehicles/sylphy/index.cfm

at this price, i'd settle for SUV / MPV, like forester, qashqai, outlander, s-max. thot it's some 7-10k diff like prev yrs. price diff affected by recent significant inflation i suppose.
