my est for the next quarter based on dereg figures of Jul & Aug:

a) 12% more for Cat A

b) 10% more for Cat B

c) 15% more for Cat E

 

still pending LTA to release it, hopefully by tmr am.

Personally I feel a 10-12% increase in quota will not make much of a difference to the premium. For it to see signficant movements, I reckon at least a 20% increase in quota.

If COE quota announcement is favourable as quota increased today, then ADs reduced their car prices.

 

Those who booked their cars last few days before this announcement, will ADs reduce the car package according to the latest reduced prices?

Frankly speaking, i doubt the quota figure is favourable. This will lead to panic buying which in turn, may, and i say may, cause prices to go up

If COE quota announcement is favourable as quota increased today, then ADs reduced their car prices.

Demand still far more than supply. Think will need a big increase to create a big drop in COE.

But recently there has been alot of talks on removing CEVS rebate, balancing COE supply across the years, GPS ERP etc.

Seems like gov is not keen to see COE drop so they are bring other mechanism to counter the increase in scrap.

CAR dealers are pulling out all the stops in lavishing freebies on potential car buyers - though not all customers are turned on by what some describe as just sales "gimmicks".

Among the more impressive offers are those from Borneo Motors, dealer for the luxury Lexus marque.

New owners are given a choice of three giveaways:

• To be driven in the Lexus LFA Supercar on a racing circuit in Taiwan, with the flight there and accommodation covered;
• A dining experience featuring various types of Japanese cuisine in Tokyo; or
• Free car servicing for five years and an extended five-year warranty, compared to a standard warranty of three years.

A senior executive of Borneo Motors Singapore said these gifts were to promote the marque. "But more importantly, we are doing this based on customer feedback."

It is not the first time Lexus has organised such events, adding that as many as seven in 10 customers are existing Lexus owners who say that something like this "would be nice to have" when they buy a new car.

"Anyone can go to a hotel in Tokyo for a meal, but ours is a dedicated event that you can't buy on the Internet or from a travel agent. It is a special experience." The executive dismissed criticisms of the giveaways as gimmicks: "If it is a promotion, I can just give a discount of S$4,000 to S$5,000. I don't have to go through all that trouble to organise it."

Other luxury makes are also on track with their own treats.

Last month, BMW treated 60 buyers of its 5-Series sedan to its Clark safety-driving experience in the Philippines. The all-inclusive three-day, two-night getaway was a successful promotion, said the German luxury marque.

At Volvo, owners who make recommendations to others to buy the car are rewarded with S$1,000 in credit, which can be used for servicing, accessories or merchandise. The new Volvo buyer also gets a S$1,000 credit, or S$500 off the car price if an outright discount is preferred.

Even mainstream makes are raising the ante on promotional gifts, although mostly of a lesser value, and with conditions.

Three months ago, Mazda started a grand draw of Sony products such as smartphones, tablets and cameras. A hundred such prizes are available - but only to customers who take a three-year loan for a minimum of S$30,000. A representative of the dealership said the promotion was "successful", with about one in five Mazda buyers having qualified so far. The rest mostly take smaller loans or prefer to pay in cash.

Not all mainstream brands are on board the latest promotional blitz for new car purchases.

The sales manager of one such brand along Alexandra Road said he does not need them because he prefers to think he is "selling emotion and service".

The boss of one premium brand which also does not give away anything with its cars calls such freebies "gimmicks". He said: "They are essentially the same as an overtrade, a discount or credit - they are all gimmicks. If my cars sell, I don't need to resort to all these."

I seriously doubt our ADs got so good, will refund $$ for any transactions already signed. They will say, if price suddenly go up, we also cannot ask you for more $$, right? (but they can always don't win the bid for you, and therefore end up not selling to you, and sell the car to someone else to make more $$, in that instance)...

You can however try to ask for some freebies, maybe they will be nice and entertain you.

of course, demand is always higher than supply, otherwise we will see $1 COE!

but as you said, SE is confident to secure COE with only 1 bid even for non-guaranteed pckg. isn't this suggested that the demand is pretty weak? hopefully, majority of cash-rich buyers hv already gotten their new cars.

I interpret that as "dealer has fat margins".

My car COE has exactly 6 months left from today, before expiry.

 

I recently negotiated with an AD for a new car at $10k lower than the current listed/promo price, for six bids non-guaranteed. The COE rebate is adjusted down accordingly, $10k down from current offered rebate of $58k The AD agreed. I have no plans to top up later.

 

If by December my bet doesn't pay off, I'll just relook at other options. Either change car model (lower-priced) or buy used.

 

My take : dealer has plentiful margins, and the dealer's outlook is that COE price will generally drift down.

Btw, if buying a car from Honda or Toyota, how much AD is willing to reduce from the list/promo price nowadays ?
