Icebrush79 4th Gear November 7, 2014 Author Share November 7, 2014 So what did you end up with? Still deciding leh. There's one im considering from AIA. Yearly premium is 2K plus, it is an ILP linked with protection. I reckon not too bad but still need to compare against OCBC maternitycare max which is underwritten by GE. What kind of plan did you take bro?

I went straight for term life (on my life) matching my kid's age when she is due for university. For my kid, she's on Aviva MyShield 1 and a standalone Hospitalization and Surgical (H&S) Plan with guaranteed renewal (regardless of health status) . Do these shield plans have non guaranteed renewal?? Ah ok... checked NTUC website, mine is guaranteed renewal as well. I always assume that was a standard for Shield plans. I went straight for term life (on my life) matching my kid's age when she is due for university. How does this work? U mean u bought extra term life on yourself until ur kid goes to uni? The guaranteed renewal is not referring to the Shield Plan. I bought a stand alone H&S plan with guaranteed renewal (ie: coverage is provided as long as premiums are paid). As for term life, it covers me for abt 19 yrs, if I kick the bucket within this time, the payout will take care of her local uni fees.

Sabian Turbocharged November 11, 2014 Share November 11, 2014 can share which standalone H&S is that ? not very common nowadays AXA Premier Care. At the time when I was searching, there Aviva had Ideal Medical but I think they are not making money from it and have withdrawn it as I no longer see it offered on their website.

Ahseng 5th Gear December 8, 2014 Share December 8, 2014 Hi folks, Would appreciate some feedback pertaining to the additional cost with having one kid for the following stages 1) 0 - 18 mths (pre play school age) forgot 2) 18 mths onwards ( playschool, but no longer drinking formula milk (i guess?) Still growing children should still drink milk. (my opinion not doctor's) haha. My 4y.o still drinking. Would $800 to $1000 additional per month be enough to cover all these? I can only answer qn 2 as 0 to 18 mths ( i cant remember) . Her child care (full day) is around 800+ so plus milk la, diapers la, some chapalang unknown things that you couldn't be bothered to count maybe like $1500 excluding any enrichment classes. thanks in advance guys. cheers

Ahseng 5th Gear December 8, 2014 Share December 8, 2014 (edited) Yes $800 is enough if remove the full day child care. Infant care costs even more than child care (more than 18mths) Just curious, why no need child care? Wife become full time care giver? Icebrush79 4th Gear December 8, 2014 Author Share December 8, 2014 Yes $800 is enough if remove the full day child care. Infant care costs even more than child care (more than 18mths) Just curious, why no need child care? Wife become full time care giver? Nope, cuz we already have arrangement for infant care. wife doesn't want to go for infant care as they are "outsiders" afterall. It will be my parents (dad) most likely. Dad retires next year. When they reach school age .. big part of expenses go to education and their hobbies (tuition, enrichment classes, games, sports). But all depends on your lifestyle and expectations. $5000 can do, $1000 also can do, $100 also can do. Formula milk and playschool not part of growing up for most families in the 1970s and maybe 1980s. Just drop at neighbours' house to play .. But these days different. If the child don't attend pre school classes, they will be considered as "losing out" as most of their peers are attending classes to teach them the basics. Times are different. Unless as parents, we can bear to let them stay at home and learn nothing much until they reach schooling age, the playschool part is integral. Expenses goes up for pre school classes for sure, but once off formula milk and as they grow older, expenses goes down for medical and milk, am I correct to say that? Would $800 to $1000 additional per month be enough to cover all these? thanks in advance guys. cheers It depends on what schools you're going to. I've tried the 100-200 dollar 2-2.5hrs playgroup before for my girl. Frankly it was rubbish. Terrible staff to child ratio. Not saying there is no places that are cheap and good, just that not easy to find. Especially when convenience will be a big issue for the parents. Full day nursery + childcare is from 800 to 1800? Depending on what schools u think suit you. Don't make the mistake thinking that 2.5 hr to 3 hr nurseries are cheaper. They are usually only slightly cheaper. Letting my girl start at 2 yr + at a better school from Jan onwards. Hopefully she will like it there. Indeed, times are different. Though "learning" is subjective, go to school and play or stay at home and play, both also can learn things. Think challenge is most parents, sometimes even grandparents, nobody got time at home. Neighbours also not at home .. Only domestic helpers and dogs at home .. this is our modern lifestyle. Those classes, activity, etc. sure costs more than milk. Medical, better if your company has good healthcare perks, then no problem. I think it's more to learn from other children and the teacher while playing. We live in small families now, and parents and grandparents really don't have the imagination or time to keep thinking of new things to engage the kids with. I really those parents that can keep thinking of new places/activities to bring their young kids to learn or have fun. ↡ Advertisement
