i have 1 Samsung and 1 Toshiba Regza....both about 8 yrs ago. The Samsung conked out at 3 yrs old but i repaired it myself by changing all the capacitors.......now still ok....but the Regza still holding out even with heavy usage. My take buy those from well established tv brands....not those Korea made.....well maybe Korean may have made better lasting equipments with better r and d since i last bought a tv!

u mean japs brand also gets their panels from Korea? I really not sure about that......by my Toshiba still going well but got colour blemishes bcos my wife cleaned the panel with a soaked towel. I scolded her for that! My Regza i think was made in Indonesia but last longer than the Korean made! I read on the internet Korean made usualy has capacitors problem....thats why i changed them when it conked out.....went to Sim lim to buy but there were none of similar height.....bought a few longer ones and did some mod and eureka...it works!

LOL, I also looking around. My LG LCD 32 " also starting to give me prob after 8 years of active service. Capacitor also swollen. But too lazy to swap out with high quality Japs capacitors. Anyway after 8 yrs also time to change.

1) Philip 6500 series 42" 42PFT6509_98

2) LG 42" 42LB582T

3) Toshiba 40" 40L5450VE

Thanks bro. I have bad experience with Philips TV. Used to have a Philips monitor. Really super disappointing. Hahhaa. Might consider the Toshiba 40" 40L5450VE. . .

Do you think 40" and 42" makes a big diff?

Hahha... maybe give them another 10 years. I think they can be win Nippon products. But now, i will still stick to Japan stuff. Abit ugly never mind. Because, i know i have bought something that can last.

My Canon camera also serve me super long. Since 2007 also. hahaha. Don't think it will spoil anytime soon.

I went the opposite and tried to ignore all the smart features, including 3D.

My take is that it is not likely I would be surfing the web using my TV. If I want to watch streaming video, youtube and show my holiday photos, a simple add-on is more than enough to do all that. Plus I can upgrade this add-on regularly to keep up with the advances in features and technology. A cheap TV add-on can be had for around $100.

Not that easy to find TV without all these smart features though.

In the end I bought a jap brand 50" TV for $800 at Courts @ Tampines. Truly just a 1080p panel and nothing else. Quite happy with it. The TV actually was on sale for around $950 and a customer came in wanted to exchange his to a 70" one. I negotiated it at $800 to took over his order.
