Simplecar 4th Gear October 2, 2014 Share October 2, 2014 Based on what the article and tv news suggests... It will likely be a case of those who use more will pay more than now. Those who use less will also pay more than now. I pay $0 now for travel for cck to jurong west on my daily route through KJE. If distance based, then unlikely for me to pay less than now. even if your journey is not congested? that, is going to get people very upset, including me *thud* What was that? The sound of grammar dying and falling to the floor... Blardy heck - my blood pressure just went up another 10 points! that is a special word which always bring a smile on my face. Tigershark1976 Turbocharged October 2, 2014 Share October 2, 2014 (edited) so they save $ on gantries but have to spend more on new cameras? in the end they must have cameras coz its so easy to get signal jammers theres no other way for evidence. they cannot simply charge if u r jamming the signal coz they dont even know u r there unlike the current gantries with detection equipment... in the end they still need surveillance equipment & back to square one lol.. unless they admit the satellties themselves will do the surveillance... in other words next time ure GF sunbathe, be careful some tiko guy may be staring at her boobs from space lol Bro, read my sentence again... those camera is already exist on major arterial road and expressway and its 100% coverage. They are not installing new cameras for such purpose... In fact, other than Arterial Rd and express, most major junctions are equiped with CCTV as well. If need be, they can even tap on SPF and HDB CCTV ...... So what they need is to enhance on existing equipment for multi purpose. a gantry cost a few mill and that is sufficient to install hundreds of cameras already. Rm2s 5th Gear October 3, 2014 Share October 3, 2014 My take is that LTA should come out and tell the public what their plans are for this GNSS based system. The authority has quite obviously figured out what the technical specifications are for the system, though the actual live date is still some 6 years to go, the least they could do is to tell us conceptually how will this works. Merely said that the system could be used to track each and everyone by distance traveled is more than enough to generate many unhappiness.

Going by the recent LTA's track record on doing things (hint: bhp based COE categorization), we can't help but wonder if the system can be easily fooled. On the other hand, going by their past track record (hint: indestructible ERP gantries), I believe they would have covered their bases and have a sure-fire way of collecting money. So what will it be? Akan datang...

So what will it be? Akan datang... Paying congestion taxes is not new in the world, this satellite based one will just changed the way it is calibrated. The issue for me is not why they want to charge for use of congested roads, but that of personal privacy, what is tracked, who gets to see the log, how long the log is kept etc are not trivial. Personally I have nothing to hide, it really didn't matter to me that someone know that I go to work at 7 am in the morning and that I took certain route, but it is the transparency that I would be looking for. LTA has to emulate other agencies for being more upfront about things.
Mr_b20 6th Gear October 3, 2014 Share October 3, 2014 Ah, finally they will be tracking our speed too, damn! if it ever really happens, i don't know what to say anymore... imagine 1am, empty expressway... you step abit more... 95km/h... *BEEP*!! The GPS picks up your speed and the LTA computer auto-generates a love letter to you mail.

Rantwb 2nd Gear October 3, 2014 Share October 3, 2014 the traffic cams are going to work alongside the GPS tracking, so that there is no dispute..... whether use of roads or speeding... in any case, it seems to be reported that alot of information is logged... Singapore an advanced surveillance state, but citizens don't mind another example, try downloading the EZ-Link app for Android and Apple. After registering an account, you can catch a glimpse of the tip of the ice berg: Your travel logs for the past few months, when you top up, where you top up, etc..... With this, LTA and TP require less manpower to monitor and regulate the roads. ↡ Advertisement
