Vhtfhwlego Supercharged September 24, 2014 Share September 24, 2014 I dont see any morons. It's just some guy with a underpowered car with poor judgement. It's very common to overtake someone in these conditions. Only in Singapore, people cannot perform these maneuvers and say others are reckless.

The common practise is to let the first car in queue have first bite of cherry. Moron move is in trying to overtake 3 at once. Note, front car already tailgating truck trying to get past.
Mrlancergtx 5th Gear September 24, 2014 Share September 24, 2014 Apart from an underpowered car, I think the driver behind the wheel has lousy skills. Agree with the statement of other bro's on poor judgement skills too....

Thaiyotakamli Supersonic September 24, 2014 Share September 24, 2014 If i am the car cam I would quickly try to squeeze into back of truck rather than continue to overtake Or else if really try to overtake the truck I would tap my honk to let the truck know I am overtaking and require him to slow down In conclusion this guy indeed a moron, u must know ur car performance well before doing this stupid stunt
Atonchia Supersonic September 24, 2014 Share September 24, 2014 Don't think its a car, possibly a truck, much higher than the 2nd car and also higher than the pick-up truck behind the white truck. Cannot estimate the speed and distance.

It was obvious rather early that he wasn't going to be able to make it - at this point (IMHO) his best option would have been to brake, and pull off to the right shoulder as he slowed - not try and try and try. As a side note - the NZ roadcode teaches 1. You should take it in turns to pass slower vehicles (front car has priority) 2. You should INCREASE your folllowing distance when you want to overtake - the theory being, you drop back to about four seconds behind, start to speed up on your own side of the road, then pull out, pass, go back in - the general theory is that by doing this you are up to overtaking speed BEFORE you pull out, so you spend least time possible on the wrong side 3. Having driving less powerful cars in the past, on roads I knew well, I would hang back even further - up to 8 or 10 seconds, and then "plan" the overtake - for when I know there was a straight coming up, get it right, and you will have a 20 - 30 km speed differential by the time you pull out, making the overtake "easy"
Kobey 1st Gear September 24, 2014 Share September 24, 2014 (edited) Seems like when it goes to the opposite lane, it didn't even "try" to accelerate or overtake. Like staying there waiting for durian to drop. Or maybe he overestimate the car ... It's at full rev and still can't move. Camera is good though. Flip liao still stay in position and working. Or else why bus overtake by tailgating? The NZ theory applicable to empty traffic not at the traffic in the video Driver in camera-mounted car should had accelerated faster if he was overtaking others travelling at that speed. The said car may had worn shock-absorbers, so loss adequate road adhersion to crashed like that. Probably truck in high speed thats why 2 car behind truck don't dare to overtake as it would require big power to do so
Darryn Turbocharged September 24, 2014 Share September 24, 2014 And if waiting 8-10 sec behind, it would be harder to overtake. Or else why bus overtake by tailgating? 8 - 10 seconds is too far - I used to do it beause I knew where the "straight" sections of road were - I could time it to get a bit of speed up, and then be reaching the straight section just on time, In general though - if you car is not so powerful, drop back a little - and then get up to speed BEFORE moving to the right lane - this minimises the time spent on the wrong side of the road, and you can always abort if need be. this advice probably not as relevant as it once was (I see it has been removed from the latest NZ road code)
