Pay in rupiah cash better. If you pay in S$, the exchange rate is lousy, If they charge S$ to credit card, you'll kena double losses. S$ to Rupiah then Rupiah to S$ in your credit card bill.

Well, it's their country.. so just follow whatever rule set by them, as long as it's within reasonable limit.

Only problem is, the biggest denomination note they have is Rp100,000, which is about our $10. To pay for your hotel stay in cash, will take one stack of notes.

Thats why bring big envelope when going to indonesia

but more half than half the resort are owned by singaporean right?

Many rich Indonesians keep their illgotten wealth in USD n foreign currency.

They hide cash in their rooms/houses or wherever cos they cannot declare where all that money came from n if in Indo RP the Govt very smart.

Once in awhile the Govt wil either devalue the currency so it lose maybe 10-20% of its value overnight.

Another is to change the type of currency.

They just change the type of notes n give pple a month to change all the old money to new money so they cannot go bank to change cos the bank wan to know why they have so much cash.

Once the new notes come out....All the old notes r worthless.

Never understood the attraction of places like Bintan and Batam. Thailand is so much more user-friendly and not that much further away from these two cesspits... Phuket and Koh Samui are bliss!!!

Cheap mah by ferry somemore very near

using singapore dollar to exchange Rupian will give us more leverage...those hotels will never give better rate than an money changer so why insist to pay in singapore dollar?

U pay them in USD. They all love USD. Very safe very sound.

Value always there. If u pay big amount.....if u use USD they wil give u a big discount cos they all wan USD.

Their Rp is only used by the poor vendors n small amts.

Some years bacvk their govt changed the type of Rp. After that all old Rp is worthless.

I still have some old Rp in my drawer. Totally no value. Cannot spend at all. [bigcry]

i got few hundred worth of rupiah in my drawer after my trip used less cash than expected.

Maybe better to swap it back at a loss rather than keep it.

I never use CC in indonesia/thailand/malaysia unless it's at the hotel.

Ya over there its just not safe to use CC.

Even in Msia i kenna a couple of times b4 I was charged for things I never bought.

Even a petrol station did it.

I refused to pay the charges n fought it out with the CC company till they never asked me to pay anymore.

Last couple of series are still legal tender...

I still have a stack of Rp 50,000 from the mid-90s, notes bearing Suharto's face on it with me though..

Any new development in Bintan? Nothing much to do & not really very cheap these days. Almost the same as going to Sentosa. Only thing is the beach is much nicer.
