Dgeralds 1st Gear September 15, 2014 Share September 15, 2014 My 2005 Mitsubishi Grandis had gearbox problems and was confirmed by X431 Diag Report (code 001: 44 4th not syncromesh and code 002: 42, 2nd not syncromesh). At slow speed especially in morning difficult to drive due jerks, but once speed picks up seems to be ok. But I guess it is not safe to drive. The car has 10 more months to go before COE expires. Do you all have any suggestions - to repair or scrap? How to maximize returns at this point? Thank you. ↡ Advertisement

U may want to change to a good ATF as a gamble to tide thru. Be it full flush or drain and re-fill. For a 5AT, meant for a >200nm application, a re-build would likely see easily >4k. No point, unless u intend to renew another 5 yrs. But given the road tax for a 2.4L, ......but that will buy u some time to monitor the coe situation from 2015-2020...which is well....highly anticipated by many. But I'm not familiar with the term syncromesh though. Unsure if that means its terminal.

Is the symptoms like when you engage gear 1 or reverse gear, it doesn't catch on immediately? there is a lag, then suddenly it latch on and jerk fwd. but take note, this will only fix mechanical problem. electrical problem it won't help. it is so cheap though. haha
Hamburger Hypersonic September 15, 2014 Share September 15, 2014 alternatively may try Lucas transmission fix. It worked on my ex ody and lasted for half a year before the symptom appeared again. But again, if its solenoid problem, then its no help like mentioned.
Zippaboy 4th Gear September 15, 2014 Share September 15, 2014 yup. lucas and bar's leak products are really good. I used them in US on a civic, accord , camry, etc. Now have been using them on my cars in SG. Never fail to impress me. Recently my friend's van was having a problem with his power steering. Add in a bottle, steering was smooth as silk, no more whining or hard turning.
Dgeralds 1st Gear September 16, 2014 Author Share September 16, 2014 At slow speeds especially around car parks in the morning there will be a lag and then suddenly latch on and jerk forward. Once the engine runs for a while it seems OK. I also noticed one time the N (neutral) flashes while on D (drive) mode. I sent you a PM of my contact. Thank you. Sure, PM me your number. but i will be overseas from thursday to Sun. Or what should I do to find our of it is electrical or mechanical. The workshop I went to just told me it is gearbox problem and have me the scan result. Do you all have any suggestions - to repair or scrap? How to maximize returns at this point? Thank you. I was faced with this problem once but not as bad as yours. My problem is the gear does not engage when first starting the car in the morning, need to wait for 3-4 seconds after shifting to D then the first gear engage. Checked with the mechanic and was advised that the gear box may have problem liao, but since only left with ten months, just drive and monitor and the mechanic also suggested, can just change gearbox oil and see if the problem can be solved or partially solved because it may be due to dirty gear box oil. May be your car can try this first if it is not too expensive, If the gear box really broken, then come the questions on to repair or to scrap. But have to know the down time of the car and cost of the repair if it is worth it.

Hamburger Hypersonic September 16, 2014 Share September 16, 2014 where to buy in sg or muz buy US online? buy from amazon which has free global delivery. me used to buy from workshop which cost at least few folds...... Do we need to drain the ATF and put in new ATF or just add Bar's leak to the existing ATF? best to drain out and fill it together with the new transmission fluid. careful not to overfill it though. Zippaboy 4th Gear September 16, 2014 Share September 16, 2014 where to buy in sg or muz buy US online? i always get in through Amazon with the free shipping. It is so cheap that i get a bit of everything. :) Do we need to drain the ATF and put in new ATF or just add Bar's leak to the existing ATF? depends how old/dirty your ATF is. There is no harm in topping a bottle to the existing ATF. however for best performance, best is to use it with fresh ATF.
