If these word came out from the mouth of any of the ex or current PM, you can hear all sort of critisism from the Malays group/Union/party... but if frm Maharthir, nobody dare to say much. at most a word or 2...... afterall, nobody could hold the post of PM as long as him.... He is not a simple man... By the way, I must stress that not all Malay is lazy, look at Singapore, our Malay friends work as hard as Chinese and Indian. Even in Malaysia, I know many Malay who is hardworking, especially those who lives in City... Malay definetly improved over years and they have strenght in certain field that other races should learn from. We Should not stereotype a single race just because a small group of useless fellow.. Buadongdong Twincharged September 15, 2014 Share September 15, 2014 https://my.news.yahoo.com/failed-malays-know-no-shame-says-dr-m-094017568.html Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad lamented that he failed in his 22 years in power as the Malays did not feel ashamed when they failed, whether in examinations or in life. "I spent 22 years trying to change the Malays, trying to alter the perception that they were lazy, I failed," Malaysia's longest serving prime minister said today. His comments came after the Education Ministry revealed that two examination papers for a national primary school test had been leaked, forcing nearly 500,000 pupils to resit the papers on September 30. "In the past, when a Malay was sentenced to jail, the offender would hang his head in shame as it was not something to be proud of. "But today, when a Malay is sentenced to jail, the offender will walk with his head proudly in the air, smiling as if he has achieved something." The former prime minister was speaking at the launch of the book “Wahai Melayu” by author Anas Zubedy in Petaling Jaya today. He cited Mat Rempit or members of Malay motorcycle gangs as an example of Malays who did not feel ashamed about not working hard. If anyone asks me today, I would have to say Malays are lazy. - Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad "When they fail, they say we will go and become Mat Rempit. Look at the gender breakdown in our public universities. "Women make up 70% of the students while men are a mere 30%. What has happened? Is Malaysia lacking in males? "No, the Malay men appear to feel proud to be Mat Rempit. They do not feel ashamed when they fail in their examinations." Dr Mahathir said he spent 22 years as prime minister trying to change the mindset of the Malays and turn them around. "I always tell non-Malays not to think that the Malays are lazy. If anyone asks me today, I would have to say Malays are lazy," Dr Mahathir said. Another failing among the Malays, he said, was the lack of honesty and integrity, and their failure to handle money properly. He spoke of his experience running a bakery after his retirement from politics. "I am operating a bakery and have given many opportunities to Malays to hold management positions. "Unfortunately, time and time again, honesty and integrity appear to be lacking as there have been staff who keep stealing. "They do not seem to understand that it is wrong to take what is not theirs, they do not think of the big picture or the long term." He said he had hoped to change the Malay mindset by introducing the Look East Policy in 1982 because he had high regard for the attitude and determination of the Japanese, to whom failure was “unacceptable”. "Despite the massive setbacks they had suffered, the Japanese refused to yield. They were determined to rebuild their country (after World War II). "Look at how Japan has risen from the ashes. Their economy is among the top five in the world. This was accomplished with blood and sweat. "To redeem their honour, the Japanese united and strived to make their country's economy strong until it was among the top five in the world. "The Japanese feel ashamed if they fail to accomplish what they have set out to do. They take everything seriously." "In the old days, Japanese commit hara-kiri or seppuku (suicide) if they have failed. This is because failure is unacceptable." Dr Mahathir also reminded Malays to repay their debts so that they would not be looked upon poorly. "Unpaid debts not only affects us as individuals, but as a race as well. We do not want other people to look at us and assume we are bad paymasters. "As Malaysia heads towards 2020, the Malays must work hard to ensure that they are not the poor people of Malaysia," Dr Mahathir said. "If we fail, we should not blame anyone but ourselves. We have failed because we did not do what was right." – September 11, 2014. Kudos to Dr M for admitting his failure openly. At least he have the guts to own up to his mistakes. But look at our own country, wonder if anyone in the Cabinet will own up to their mistakes openly like he did. Hope to see that one fine day.

Jman888 Moderator September 16, 2014 Share September 16, 2014 Kadir Jasin backs Dr M on ‘lazy Malays’ remark The Malaysian InsiderThe Malaysian Insider – Mon, Sep 15, 2014 Veteran editor Datuk A. Kadir Jasin (pic) has come to the defence of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who had received flak for saying Malays are lazy, adding that some Malays did live in misery due to their own attitudes. While noting that not all Malays were like that, the former editor-in-chief of English daily New Straits Times also cited examples of those who took the easy way out. He mentioned those who were given subisidised fertiliser for their own farms, but they sold it in order to fund gambling and other activities. He said they racked up debts by buying Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki vehicles and then became Mat Rempits to participate in illegal races “until they die”. "I want to ask again, what kind of Malays we want to strenghten the economy?" he wrote in his popular blog today. Last week, Dr Mahathir had lamented that Malays no longer felt ashamed of failure. Malaysia's longest serving prime minister said he had failed to change the mentality of the Malays in his 22 years of helming the nation. "I spent 22 years trying to change the Malays, but I admit I failed. However, there are a few success stories," he said in his remarks after launching a book by Anas Zubedy on Thursday. "If anyone asks me today, I would have to say Malays are lazy," he had said. Yesterday, Dr Mahathir defended his criticism of Malays, admitting that he was ashamed that they had been left behind by the forward-thinking Chinese community. The statesman had said the Malays were still lazy, citing the gender imbalance at institutions of higher learning where the majority was women. "The Malays are lazy. They are not interested in studying and revising. If we go to the universities, 70% of the students are women. Where are the men?" "They prefer to become Mat Rempit, that is why I said they are lazy," Dr Mahathir told Umno mouthpiece Utusan Malaysia in an exclusive interview published on Sunday. Dr Mahathir's comments raised a storm although the Selangor chapter of Malay rights group Perkasa had termed it as "fatherly advice". Kadir Jasin said today people should not be upset or sulk over Dr Mahathir's remarks as not all Malays are lazy. Some are hardworking and excel in what they do. "Give them a crutch and they will turn it into a paddle and a pillar," he said. He noted that there are those from the community who had made a name for themselves and live well all over the world. Citing legendary Malaccan warrior Hang Tuah’s famous rallying cry that Malays will not vanish from the world, Kadir Jasin said the Malays are rulers and made up the bulk of the civil service, such as the police force, Customs and Immigration department, as well as the teaching profession. However, he said the majority of those arrested for corruption and cheating are also from the Malay community. "The Malays who take bribes are jailed. Nothing happened to the Chinese and Indians who give bribes. If there are any, it is only one or two," he said. – September 15, 2014.

DavidOh 5th Gear September 16, 2014 Share September 16, 2014 truthfully, corruption is everywhere (every country, every school, every organisation and sadly religion too, it is matter of whether we want to know / to expose it in school, if you know somebody, it becomes easier to get a place even if child is not so smart and you stay far away in retail including service industries, there are kick backs which comes in many form, in medical world, there is an unspecific referral fee, such as GP referring patient to a surgeon for endoscopic examination or even radiological examination. sometimes when we claim we are least corrupt, I don't exactly know what that means, does it really meant we are truly least corrupt, or corruption well hidden behind the laws, or unreported corruption currently, there seem a general push by our police, when we report a crime, if it is small they request not to make a report, if it between two parties, they request you go civil court way and etc, We can say all we want about our neighbours, unless we are whiter than whiter, we should learn to co-exist or assist in bridging the differences. So what Dr. M hard truths may be, we should at least reflect upon ourselves too whether we are truly any better or worse in which areas and improve over them rather than gloat about how good we are. This is but one of the way we can move forward. ↡ Advertisement
