I wouldn't send my child overseas for the following reasons:

1) Cost

2) It is my perception that unless you go to Ivy League Unis, the employment market values local degree esp from NUS, NTU, SMU more than overseas degree.

Admittedly, you get a better perspective of education overseas, not to mention being exposed to diff culture, students, teaching methods etc.

I wont send them overseas as well reason high cost and how long ur child need to work to cover his uni cost? Go sim best option less than 20k for a degree

its always "the grass is greener on the other side" mentality.

singapore isnt such a bad place for education. if not why are people (AMs... ATs...) flooding into singapore for schools? so support local 'productions'! unless the child is Ivy league/Harvard/MIT quality then go ahead!

It's good. Problem is many locals cannot get into local unis while so many FTs with dubious results can leh.

yeah.

that's true.

unless it's to ivy league or the top 10 uk schools. the ROI is simply not there.

most people rightly view an overseas education as local uni rejects.

esp those aussie uni. the name damm smelly. particularly those with distance learning program in sg. like curtin etc.

Lot of crappy Aussie uni's. There are 43 in total which says a lot. So I wonder consider a small handful.

Some of the FT colleague have pinoy degrees , which are unheard off, and considered recognized by our company which is a american mnc.

there is a very real but subtle difference between the recognition of a degree and the prestige that it confers.

for example, both Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim sec sch and RI both offers the GCE O levels.

both are recognised but yet one school is alot more prestigious than the other.

i wouldn't say crappy, at least half of them are recognised and a dozen of good ones.

Case of 'depends' really. Crappy may be too harsh a word.

So some of the uni's there are good but only for particular courses. An easy one to pick out is Uni of New England. Very good if you want to Agriculture linked degrees. But it also offers Arts and Economics degrees. The entrance mark for Arts/Economics are around 50-60, whereas Sydney Uni/ANU/Monash are like 90 (this is based on the Aussie high school system where they rank students in percentiles, so 90 means you beat 90% of the state, 50 you beat half, and half beat you).

Also they have quotas for international students as they can charge them 3x or more compared to local and get the cash upfront too. So the international students can sometimes get in at a lower equivalent ranking to the locals if the uni needs money.

Our mnc pay local term and so base on salary scale. They are paid the same and have the same career path.
