think before your engine wear & tear problems due to this become significant to be noticed by you, your COE is already way long overdue...

How does it look like? Does it save petrol?

One of my workshops offered me this during the recent servicing but I couldn't convince myself to try this.

Maybe next time.

Just pour in a bottle of Liquimoly Ceratec when you change your oil and you don't need to worry about wear to your engine.

Autobacs got promotion for it now. $44 for a bottle, cheapest so far.

In BITOG, tribologists tend to disagree with additional oil additives such as ceratec.

Their arguments is that engine oil is a complex balance of base oil + additives to give the proper results.

Adding additives might throw off the delicate balance and possibly create some other issues.

Personally, I like to think adding something to fix something is attractive, but then again you could save some money by simply using a better oil and forget about additives.

Car owners with an engine oil temp gauge.

On a cold morning, maybe can you share how long does it typically take for your car to reach optimum operating temperature of > 90deg ?

I am not referring to the water temp gauge, that warms up much faster though.

Reason i am asking this is because when your engine get the most wear and tear is always during the initial startup.

The engine oil doesn't thin enough to really get into the minute places of our modern tight tolerances' engines.

in fact, using a w20 or w30 engine oil might be better than that w40 or w50 oil you are using.

at the same time save you the trouble of warming up the engine?

My MFD or dashboard screen does indicate the readings for both coolant temperature and oil temperature.

For coolant temperature, it goes pretty fast though I do warm up for my car for a minute or two.

For engine oil temperature, it takes slightly longer and if I were to give an estimate, about 20 minutes or so.

I usually drive slow and below 2000 rpm until both coolant temperature and oil temperature hit the operating range (around 92 to 95 degrees).

Hope this helps a bit.

Get it from Autobacs and pour in yourself. I am sure the workshop will sell you a lot more than $44.

Been reading good reviews about it so just decide to try. It's a good price anyway.

And it last up to 50000km as stated by them so no harm la...haha.

Can add in immediately after oil change ?

This guy ran his engine for 2 minutes with no engine oil and the engine still work after that.

http://www.syncoptima.com/blog/2012/06/27/liqui-moly-ceratec-long-term-review-this-sht-really-works/comment-page-1/

Yes, you are suppose to do that. But remember to leave 300ml of your engine oil capacity for this.

If TS is worried about wear and tear to his engine when warming up, I think this is a good solution for that.

OK, thanks.

Like that means have to inform WS during oil change.

Thank you

I always think it will take at least 10-15mins. Guess my suspicions was right.

Thanks once again

Read up on amazon about the product, Liqui Moly Ceratec. Seems like it really worked.

People who strip their car engine can see the actual coating...

Some drivers or owners use an ultra-gauge to do all these monitoring.

http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/

You may wish to consider but the reading parameters vary from car to car.

The ultra-gauge draws its input from the car's ECU which some fussy folks would compare and comment that mechanical gauges such as those from Defi are much more accurate and faster than the digital ones (such as ultra-gauge etc.).

I have used the above product before but had since moved on to more accurate gauges.

Thanks for sharing. Yes I am referring to the number at the back.

5w20 or 0W20 instead of 5w40...

Better FC when using a 20 wt oil as well, engine seems to rev better.

But yeah I wish to know how long will it reach the full operating temperature.

I am guessing at least 10mins....

Reason why I am asking is home to my workplace is less than 10mins of driving.

Will the engine oil sufficiently warm up ?

Those with the oil temp gauge will know how long it take from cold to > 90deg..

Using a Multigrade oil like 5w-40 wil give enough protection from start.

Just start n wait abt 15-30 secs to let the oil circulate to all moving parts only. It takes only abt 5-10 mins to warm up enough to drive normally.

Too thin oil like a 20-30weight oil might not give yr engine enough protection if u drive long distances or whack hard if yr engine was not designed to use very light oils.

Your problem I see is since u usually only drive for 10 mins then park. That wil cause your exhaust to corrode faster cos the moisture in the tail pipe n Cat wil not have time to evaporate n u wil soon have corrosion in yr tail pipe.

I drove a Hyundai Excel 1.5 till scrap with abt 200k km on the clock n never had any sign of engine wear at all.

My COE Corona CD drove till almost 20 yrs with abt 400K km on the clock also with no sign of any engine wear at all.

All I did was use a decent quality synthetic engine oil like Mobil 1, then Castrol Syntron, then Royal Purple then Car lube 5w40. And change it at regular abt 10K km intervals. [thumbsup]

Till now my Optra 8 yrs n abt 170K km on the clock using Car Lube 5w40 synthetic oil. [thumbsup]

When I first started driving, I was very quick to buy all sorts of additives n add to my EO n ruined those cars engines in abt only 1-2 years. All had excessive engine wear n had to b scrapped. [thumbsdown][bigcry]

Save your breath... most Singaporean believe in thick oil protect engine concept.... only handful who have true knowledge on oil knows that for driving condition in SG (pently of short trips), thin oil protect the engines better...

Infact, thinner oil not only reduce wear n tear during startup, your FC & engine performance should improve marginally as well.

btw, Ive been using 0W20 or 5W20 oil for 8 over yrs/ 260K+, and I travel to KL quite frequently past few yrs.. and my engines work perfectly till now....

Thanks for alerting about the lobang dude! Been a long time user of Liqui Moly MoS2 and Ceratec... shipped them from Amazon as they cost ridiculously expensive here. S$44 for Ceratec is quite a bargain. Grabbed myself 4 bottles earlier today when I drove by an Autobacs. Also got some Redline Si-1 - best stuff out there IMHO.
