The recommended tire pressure is stated on the tire itself.

Stock Brompton M6R, for a 1 year or 1+ year old, I would not pay more than $2,000 for it. The asking price will varies a lot but you just have to be patient. You should also look past minor scratches on the frame, its a folding bike, you are going to get scratches no matter how careful. Interesting thing I observe is that even for 2 years old M6R, the price would not stray too far from the $2,000 price. It holds it value after the first owner's lost. Just like cars. Haha

Brooks saddle and grips are not standard in most Bromptons, there are special edition that come with Brooks saddle but those are rare.

How many km has your Dahon travelled?

How fast in terms of km/h is quite fast?

I cycle regularly to move around my neighbourhood so estimated a few KM a day only. so multiple by 5 years the bike should have travelled 2000km I guess.

dunno how fast it can go as I am not a professional cyclist and dun cycle in groups, bought it because I wanted to exercise my leg and so the bike is not aluminium or carbon, it is STEEL!!!!!

You mentioned that it could travel quite fast. W/o numbers, how do we know your fast & my fast is the same?

Brompton is also steel. So?

For exercise, bike is always not very effective unless cycle more than 1hr and your heart is pumping at 60% of working zone.

Lastly, nowadays, smart phone can also use as cyclometer. No need to be pro & cycle in groups.

That's min & max tire pressure. Recommended will depends on individual.

I have a Dahon which I bought for more than 5 years. it is the cheapest they have and for so many years, it never give any problem at all, really reliable. Best is I bought it at $350 only.

however I never folded the bike so cant commend on that. speed wise it is quite fast.

most bikes can easily last 10yrs+ if taken care of. i bot a made in taiwan carbon scott racer in 2004 & until today its still on 1 piece albeit lots of scratches & recently managed to sell it off cheap so theres still demand for it after so long lol.

i tested dahons recently n found them easy to ride & comfortable, but the fold doesnt seem as small as brompton. im gona test a brompton when got free time...

There is no fast or slow bike.

Only the engine matters.

Disagree on the speeding parts. For OCBC cycle 2012, my average speed is btw 30 & 35km/h.

Other than tyres, most of the parts you quoted will not break easily. This is based my daily ride to work.

Tyre can be easily sourced locally. In fact, i m using Schwalbe Kojak, which is a racing slick tyre.

If you buy the parts from AD, no issue. Mightty Velo stock up almost every parts of Brompton.

If you crashed a Brompton and the frame in good shape, you can even rebuild the entire bike.

Why do u need Shimano parts?

your engine good

I have another folding bike call Bike Friday. Made in USA. Encountered 2 major parts replacement since i bought it in 2008.

Go & compare the workmanship btw Dahon & Brompton. If you are serious about Brompton, do a test ride.

Brompton AD price is fix. Don't try to bargain down.

I had brought Brompton to Penang, Bkk & Ho Chi Minh. For all 3 places, we rode outside of the city area.

Wat do u thk of a Birdy bikes? I test rode one & found the ride to be v good due to full sus, just that the fold again isnt as small as brompton...

Birdy is a very good touring bike. It is very sturdy.

It is not ez to fold & unfold. There is very high chance you might stratch paint work for your 1st few folding/unfolding.

All folding bikes be it Brompton, Dahon, Tern,Tyrell, Bike Friday, Java, Vert, Brickerton Portable, MIT, Wheelsport and even Alecco have their own plus points.

It all depends on your budget, needs and physical build.

Typical questions:

Do I want it fast? Then maybe I should get one with more speed and lighter.

Do I want it to fold compact/ fast? Some of us compact could even be a 24" foldable because we have a SUV.

Do I like to cycle upright? Then I should not get those with drop bars.

I can only spend $xxx. Then I should consider entry models.

I only ride once a while for leisure. Then an entry model is sufficient.

We need to know what we want out of the bike and then test it out for ourselves on the riding as well as folding characteristics before we just hear the reviews.

All reviews online and here is excellent but do get a feel of your shortlist before you decide.

I myself had tested, Dahon, Tern, Brickerton, Java, Vert before settling for a Tern Link D16.

Any one else with a Tern folding bike? I am tempted to get one and need some advice.

Tern or Dahon are both equally good...

Suggest you go to a shop to try them out. My Bike Shop is a good place as they allow you to try. They got a good range too. There's one at Sin Min & another one at Jln Mas Kuning.
