Eugn86 3rd Gear September 6, 2015 Share September 6, 2015 The Swedes have never been about looking impressive. Instead, they prefer to be subtle, simple and elegant, creating an environment that allows you to relax and lounge in. If a buyer is looking for something impressive... the Germans do a good job there - Mercedes, BMW, Audi. If you have the time, go to the Volvo showroom and take a look at the new XC90. Then you will understand what is the new Volvo all about.
Tedlhw 5th Gear September 6, 2015 Share September 6, 2015 I am a fan of the new XC90, but the price is really staggering given the OMV of around 57K. Rough calculation of 2.27 x OMV as basic cost of car, Assuming 70K COE, the gross markup is 130K! Ok people got to make money, Currently the margin for XC90 stands at 40%, or an 100% margin on cost(cost 129k, margin 130k, COE not included)! OMV number from here. Not sure if my calculation is correct cos one shift say the margin is 111K. http://www.------.com/new_cars/car-prices.php?pid=4373 Either way , too rich for my blood. As a comparison, the Porsche Macan is around the same price and you get an OMV of roughly 73K. I'll try to pick 2nd hand for the new XC90 when my COE expires in a few years on my LS460 Few years back, they sold me my S60 T5 for 180K, with an OMV of 43K then and COE of 62K, or approximately 13% profit. Now their margin expansion is amazing...
Akula Turbocharged September 7, 2015 Share September 7, 2015 Your calculation fail to take into account the 40% extra on OMV from $20k to $50k and the 80% extra after $50k. Still. The margins are huge, but i understand the overtrade for the car is quute good.

Thanks for pointing out where i went wrong in my calculaions.. so i guess one shift .com is correct. but still 110K is a massive spread...
