its more like preventing him from joining another club.

If milner chose to come on board, pool fan will welcome him with open arms.

simply saying if another big name manager takes over, he might consider his option?? Not that i see him up... :a-t9412:

I believe Pool handled this poorly. More dirts are out.

Sterling claiming also he was let down by the club for leaking out the details of previous contract offers. He felt that club wanted to paint him a money grabbing greedy player. That's why he went ahead with that interview.

So it is now like a couple going on divorce, both sides painting the other as the evil one to get the children custody lol

Anyway, seems like whoever we thought BR had improved are moving on. Suarez then Sterling. If BR still remain as the manager, please improve Lovren next season so that PSG can come with a £50m bid

I'm still not entirely convinced that Wenger is willing to spend big. Feel that it was forced upon him due to the barren run but anyway it proved that getting good players in gives Arsenal a better chance of success. This summer window will be another test cos Gunners are almost there bar a few good signings like GK, CB n maybe striker (Ian Wright said so and so did other pundits).

Perhaps Wenger's really a model employee carrying out his bosses instructions but when a Manager steps in to say don't overpay for a player (definitely commendable) proves to me that he actually has the inner belief himself of this philosophy and that's what made it easier for him to carry out the bosses instructions.

Leeds was spending future money cos they budgeted for UCL funds which went out of the window when they didn't qualify. I'm not advocating that but to push the boat out as far as permissible. My point has always been that most owners don't do this. Pool can't spend like Chelsea nor City whose budget is bigger but they can definitely spend more than what they are currently doing is my opinion.

Newcastle (my fav eg) worked on a balance budget principle (not wrong as that's what most businesses do) and see where they are now? Buy value (from France mostly) and sell if price is good. Don't you think they should be keeping the better players and whilst the argument would be the bigger clubs came knocking so no choice but Newcastle are a big club but with a small mentality which would not go away if they continue with this mindset. It's a vicious cycle which they may never get out of if they delay any longer. Pool may go this way if they're not careful and the head start they originally had by being overall England's most successful team is slowly eroding.....

Sadly, the running of a football club isn't about transfer fees and players salaries only... you have youth set up, operational costs, etc

I am sure Arsenal can spend more... but how much more? Let's say we now buy 2 world class players for $50m each and $250k per week salary... what is for some reason we do not qualify for UCL next few years... not sure can sustain

For pool, I can only say compared to the heydays of 80s, fan support will likely wane than increase because new and younger fans likely grew up supporting man u in the 90s...

Past couple of seasons, Arsenal had spend quite abit as compared to previous years transfer surplus lol

And like I say hard to change mindset wenger won't spend... I like.. means hopefully no need overpay lol

I think both sides are culpable for this saga. Sterling made very strange and unhonorable choices along the way too. so, we can't just put the blame squarely on Pool. Granted, they should have handled things better imho.

Sterling hasn't been playing well for awhile. I think if he can't find his heart at pool, it doesn't benefit either parties. Pool is putting up a brave front saying no to his transfer requests. If a good offer comes around, I think Pool will then show hand and sell him. Makes perfect sense to me. best outcome for both parties. I think if Pool can milk out > 30m for a 19yr old, I would say job well done.

Sterling is not a world-beater yet by any stretch of the imagination and I am more concerned with his personal character traits and strength. On a long run, these things will become a serious road block to any top stars' development. He can't become a top player unless he has the right maturity and stature to handle the pressure and successes. Right now, he is not showing any of these. So, I think Pool should wisely cut loss on him, milk the best financial deal and re-invest the funds received with more ready-made players. To put it the other way, Pool doesn't have the time or capacity to wait for this player to turn around soon enough. BR can't afford another such transfer saga this summer. His time is also running up.

Don't know what game the Sterling's agent is playing but here is his statement:

“The story has been blown somewhat out of proportion. Raheem & his representatives have a meeting scheduled with Liverpool later this week & we'll take proceedings from there."

In any case, I don't think the situation can be salvaged.

My take is that the rep doesn't want to be blamed for leaking out this info which might be construed as forcing Pool's hands.

Likewise, Pool themselves were accused previously of leaking out what was offered to RS as a way to force RS hand's then.

Cat and Mouse game if you ask me and this happens most of the times when contract negotiations take place. That said, think you are right that this RS negotiation has gone sour on both sides and parting of ways looks likely.

Who to blame? Both parties IMO. Pool tried to lowball him which made RS TL and he is reputed to have a mind of his own so won't take that "Pool is the best place to get to the next level", "such an illustrious club to play for" etc. advice which has been dispensed by Carragher and ex Pool players.

From what I read, RS has an independent mind of his own and he already proved a lot of people who advised him against leaving QPR for Pool wrong and so he's confident that he knows what is best for him without the need for advice from others.

Jürgen Klopp has, according to German reports, agreed a deal worth 8M per-season with Real Madrid to be their coach until 2018.

If true, Ancelotti will be at City and Pool stuck with BR :D
