This Mirror article claims that Pool have nothing to worry over Sterling and used the Suarez case as an example of how the club standing firm got an extra year out of Suarez and yet a high fee when it was time to part company.

Admittedly, Pool did well on all accounts in the Suarez situation but IMO, the RS case is different and they should part company if the price is right. RS heart is not at Pool anymore and standing firm and insisting he sees out his contract serves no purpose. Pool may think RS has a lot to lose if he were to see out his contract at the current pay but my take is Pool has even more to lose if his performances on the field are half hearted and other indirect knock-ons like being a disruptive influence in the dressing room etc .....my 2 cents.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/raheem-sterling-liverpool-no-reason-5737594

I agree with Maddock that Pool should play hardball. I also agree with you that Sterling's and Suarez' situation is entirely different.

Firstly, Suarez enjoyed playing and with the WC looming, he couldn't afford to sulk. So he buck up and given us his best after the failed move to Arsenal. Sterling on the other hand, I feel could just give it up. In fact, his performance his the first contract talk broke down had already been downhill. His heart is no longer here like what you said. So should we still play him like what Suarez? I will let him train with U21 first and see his response. I think they did it to Suarez as well.

Second, unlike Suarez who can buy out his final year of contract, Sterling can't. So it is much more critical that we get Suarez to extend compared to Sterling. Maddock brought up a good point, the tribunal compensation at £20m at the end of it is already the base point for any negotiation at any time. Because we signed Sterling at £500k, there is no pressure to recoup.

One possible error I spotted in that article is on the potential lost of salary by Suarez. Iirc, Suarez' new wage of £200k would only kicked in at the start of the new season which he did not managed to stay on for. So technically speaking, that contract extension did not increase his pay inmediately. Sole reason to extend is to put that release clause, clearly and neatly in place.

Interesting statistical table on the best players in Europe's top 5 leagues this season.

As in all stats, it's up for debate.

I don't agree Boateng is the 2nd best CB........

http://www.football-observatory.com/IMG/pdf/wp112_eng.pdf

Frankly, without knowing the matrix and how the points are computed, can't really argue if the defenders ranking is accurate. I personally don't find it convincing but having said that, I welcome anyone to bid for the 12th best CB in Europe. He is very good (small print: if you have very good DM to cover him)

If RS has decided not to commit his future to Liverpool and insist on engineering a move away, then I think BR should just bench him next season since he is not a priority in the long term planning of the team.

RS can sulk all he wants and with little playing time, other clubs may not even want him since they can't access his performance with limited playing time.

It's lose lose for RS.

Be careful what you wish for bro, whilst admittedly if RS rots in the reserves it will be lose lose for him and potential buying clubs, it's also a lose lose for Pool cos his value will drop significantly and with Pool still paying his wages and not being able to count on him for games, it will be a disaster all round if you ask me.

Anyway, 2 more articles from journos on this but with a very different take on what the club should do:

This one says sell at the right price:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/11621969/Liverpool-must-sell-Raheem-Sterling-now-but-only-for-the-right-price.html

Whilst this article says Pool should not sell RS or risk being labelled a selling club and thus no longer a big club anymore:

by not signing the offered contract, Pool is saving 65k/wk. Thanks RS!

at the moment, Pool has no choice but to play this guy week in week out. the best medicine to cure his big head is buy lots of gd players during the summer and make him sit on the bench next season (or send him to Jamica again). I am sure it will clear his head very soon when he is no longer enjouying the luxury of playing time.

Precisely.

Man U failed their bid with Hummels and turned to Otamendi. Apparently, Valencia is willing to sell.

Yea maybe he is Man U fan but when $ iinvested, he/everyone become $ fan LOL

Pool fans of course TL at his attitude and want to throw him in the reserves to rot etc. but if you take a step back, I think ultimate decision has to be made with the bigger picture of the club's interests uppermost.

Yes Pool save 65kpw but they also get 65% less effort from him if not more so why go down this route is my take. No player is bigger than the club, so make a professional decision and stick to it. Tit for tat will not achieve anything and as I said before, in modern football unfortunately, player holds the trump cards and this is across the industry so no point being in denial. Every club faces this problem including the big boys.

the problem of the 65% less effort is not really fault of the club. It's on the table for RS to take but he is a crying baby.

agreed on the pt that no player is bigger than the club. BR and the club could have managed this matter better. For instance, they should have tied up RS last summer when Pool was on a high and qualifed for UCL. As they were late in the contract nego, these unnecessary headaches situation appeared. Just thankful that we have sewed up Henderson, Coutinho and Ibe to contain the damage.

BR needs to decide quickly what to do. I think the signs are that in appearance Pool will not bulge and attempt to make RS behave better. If a gd and adeqate offer comes around, they will probably sell at the right price.

Expectedly, BR has to address this in his pre Stoke presser

Brendan Rodgers: "Raheem, whether there are talks or no talks, has 2 yrs left and I expect him to see that through.

In line with club's stance

But this will be the tough one.

Rodgers: "Raheem will be available for selection. My relationship with him hasn't been affected at all."

Start him like nothing had happened?

i wish BR has the balls and just drop RS from this game totally. Time to show RS that he means biz with him.

until now, it is NATO. buay song with him but still keep playing him week in week out. His performance on the pitch tells the story of a half-hearted player. need to clear his head asap.

Agree bro. I think we have made him feel that he is indispensable. Despite his form dropped months ago, BR still keep selecting him.

Time to bench him imo. Even without his agent's outburst, his form justifies it

Apparently, majority of Real Madrid fans wanted Ancelotti to stay, according to poll conducted by AS.

Rafa only had 7+% of votes. It will be hell for him if he really takes over and doesn't hit the ground running.

Hypersonic

Interesting write-up on Lampard vs Gerrard. The never ending comparison and such a

pity that they never did well together for England in a Major Championship.

Part 2 to be played out in the USA next season..........

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/32734819

Both are legends at Chelsea and Pool ... though they can't always play well together in 3Lions ....
