Screeching sound when starting engine...what is wrong?

I can hear a high pitch screeching sound when i start the engine sometime. once the engine start, the sound will disappear. It start several months back but it is comes every now and then. Anyone can advice what might be wrong?

 

Am driving a 7.5yo Toyota Wish.

Fan belt loose. Ask ur mech to tighten it. Extremely simple job. But dun let him spray WD40 n charge u for it. That's only a temp fix for a few days.

Modern engine can't tighten anymore. It's all about belt tensioner. Change both and all would be good.

Agree, fan belt or engine belt needs tightening. I had experienced before, and Kah Motors resolved it for free last time.

toyota wish uses one single belt and belt tensioner.

Streamium70, bro, not to pour cold water, but as your car is aging (similar age to mine), it may be good to ask the mechanic to check through what else has or is about to fail when you go change the belt and tensioner.

 

Go to a workshop you trust.

HAHA eh fan belt and the bearing.. repair should be less then $150.. bearing should be around 90$

from what i've gather above, first thing should be check underside of all driven belts - check whole length as maybe only certain sections r affected.

 

if belt is ok, then probably is the tensioner bearing.

 

my previous exp was w a pickup - belt driving power steering pump failed.

Have this issue with my ride. But happen some time when starting up.. So ignored it since it only lasts for 2 secs or so.

Go tighten the fan belt first. If u use more than 40k, then replace the pulley and belt. That will solve the screeching sound problem.
