MAS Crashes in Ukraine - MH17

Ha ha... now a lot of armchair pilots come out and criticise why SIA continue to use that route even after the conflict started.

Need to bear in mind that that airlines overfly conflict zones all over the world, not just in ukraine... as someone mentioned, syria and the turbulent mid-east region, and afghanistan as well are regularly overflown by commercial flights.

Unless there is an impending huge air raid that's being planned, or an official war being declared between nations, e.g. as in Iraq during 1st and 2nd gulf war, there will not be a complete closure of airspace.

In low-level "unofficial" conflicts like in the ukraine, there may be cautionary notes of a "for info" nature... whether this is sufficient to trigger reaction from the airline, who knows? Now many experts say SIA should have avoided the route, it's all 20-20 hindsight.

Armchair or not, airlines customers deserve transparency of information on the degree of risks the airlines (including SIA) take in their selection of air passage/route, especially customers who value their life. I think.

More of asking why SIA has not re-routed when advisories are issued and other airlines have taken heed. Who made the decision to stick to the Ukraine route? There is apparently no clear wrong doing here but at least someone should stand out and explain why he made the decision and if it is related to cost issue. This way, there is transparency in how SIA makes such call and there might be improvements made in future regarding such decisions instead of waiting for the next disaster to hit, then cry over spill milk.

Just speculating here, but I think no such "decision" have to be made. The flight path through ukraine is a great circle route, and definitely will be one of the routes generated by flight planners as part of a batch of company approved routes.

I guess the problem would be more of inaction, i.e. business as usual, flying along the same given route, which is natural to expect since the airspace was not closed above 32000 ft (?) A computer would decide okay, this route is still allowable since there are no limitations at altitudes above that.

His body attracts gay lovers

This is one tough-guy president / prime minister (he alternates between the posts because russian constitution limits the presidential term... and when he holds one post, the other is occupied by a 'puppet' seat-warmer [laugh])

He is reportedly a judo expert and rose from the ranks of the KGB, russian secret service. Definitely not scholar type... [sweatdrop]

crazy ivan!!

Those old enough to remember that IBM PC game "Ancient Art of War" [laugh], there was a character / AI opponent called "Crazy Ivan"... he was the lowest level opponent, with erratic tactics and easiest to defeat.

The tougher ones were Genghis Khan and Sun Tzu himself.

yds, this Putin is no scholar like ours or even US presidents

he's from the ground up, tough cookie. was in KGB, then FSB. he's trained as a secret agent, trained to kill without remorse.

so I don't even trust the breath coming out of his mouth.

anyway, most Russians don't like him and don't approve his invasion into Ukraine...... heard from some Russians that he's power hungry

Given the state of situation the Ex-Soviet Union states are in right now, the world is better off when they were under USSR. At least things were predictable and the KGB kept everyone under check. The world just had to deal with one unreasonable dude instead of 50 crazy dudes.

some of the ex soviet states are also financially struggling now..

I hope everyone, from the layperson to the senior statesman, be more discerning about the information we are being provided before accepting that as the truth.

I'm not saying it wasn't the Russians, I'm not saying its the rebels or the Ukrainians either. The truth is, something in there stinks and no one is owning up, that's all. I only hope the truth can eventually come out and the families of the deceased have some closure.

But to start firing missiles at suspected (but not confirmed) culprits would only cause the sacrifice of more innocents.

Just to refresh . . . . USSR ceased to exist in 1991 and split into 15 republics.

There were fifteen republics that made up the USSR. They were:

•Armenian

•Azerbaijan

•Byelorussian

•Estonian

•Georgian

•Kazakh

•Kirghiz

•Latvian

•Lithuanian

•Moldavian

•Russian

•Tajik

•Turkmen

•Ukrainian

•Uzbek

Those Fifteen new countries became independent with the dissolution of the USSR in 1991. Most of these countries declared independence a few months preceding the fall of the Soviet Union in late 1991.

You dun have to worry about that. The current leaders of Russia are non other dan the top officers of the Soviet Union. Putin himself is a KGB officer for 16 years. Ask yourself, is there such a thing as an ex-KGB officer? These commie officers still run the show be it the country now is call Russia.
