The key thing is that no other commercial airliners fly this corridor for the foreseeable future. I wonder if SQ will give us an assurance that they will be giving this conflict zone a wide berth until further notice?

Yes. It was obvious. But what's also obvious was the place is in war. Warnings were issued to avoid the area. So... ya... it was obvious.

Apparently almost all airlines use this air corridor... [sweatdrop] [sweatdrop] its a matter of heng-swuay..

I think for the time being all flights will be avoiding this airspace.

It was a military grade weapon that shot it down. Not just some guys taking out a gun to shoot. Plane was flying at 33,000 feet. They probably felt it was alright to fly high over the area even though warnings were issue to avoid it. [:/]

That's probably a safe assumption, but I would feel better with a public statement from SIA, especially in light of the fact that an SQ flight was right on the heels of the MAS flight as it was being shot down.

The prudent course of action would've been to completely avoid this troubled airspace for the time being, but until an incident like this happens, the bean counters will win the argument based on dollars and cents. Of course, it would be a foolhardly carrier that dares to continue through this region no matter what they think a "safe" altitude is. But it's still good for our flag carrier to give an unequivocal assurance that they are not going to put anyone's lives at risk in this airspace.

So it could be one of the military forces operating there... [sweatdrop] [sweatdrop] doubt anyone will own up

so now if fly to europe or UK, safer to fly the opposite direction, and pay more!! Life or death situation [bigcry]

If you're planning to holiday in Europe, I would suggest totally change destination for the time being. [sweatdrop]

Doubt the rebels could handle such sophisticated equipments. There's also another news where they mentioned the Ukrainian armed forces sending SAM to that region .

Actually depends. Some of the militants could be ex Ukraine military or ex Soviet trained.

They may actually have the ability to operate such equipments
