Exactly. Therefore most discussions in casual forums are just that - casual, readers come in without having to take the information seriously, or they can also choose not to come in at all.

"Casual" discussions should not be an excuse to continue spreading misinformation and factual inaccuracies as "news" or "facts". That's how panic spread and misconceptions are sown. "Casual" is not an excuse for intellectual laziness, sloppiness, or plain silliness. But maybe not everybody hold themselves to basic standards of honesty and integrity, eh?

- - - Malaysia Airlines is to retire flight number MH17 out of respect for the victims of the disaster.

In a statement this morning, they said: "In light of the recent incident, Malaysia Airlines’ Amsterdam (AMS) – Kuala Lumpur (KUL) service, MH17 flight number will be retired out of respect for our crew and passengers of the mentioned flight code. This will take effect on 25 July 2014.

"There are no changes to the frequency of our services and we will continue to operate daily services between Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur.

"The new flight number replacing MH17 will be: MH19 - AMS/KUL

"Our thoughts and prayers remains with the families of our colleagues and passengers of MH17." - - -

Exactly, facing realty and decide whether it's worth reading the threads/forums is still a safer bet as ideally posters are expected to post responsibly but realistically we can't control how they post but can choose where I go, how I treat the posts.

I don't think it's intentional or reflective of the company position lah... more like trying to close the gate after the horse has left the stable, so to speak.

The problem with marketing thru social media like facebook is that more often than not, the person at the keyboard putting out the info and updates is usually a junior staffer, young and inexperienced - and therefore, economical to employ - worse, some companies even out-source this function.

Nowadays using social media, info is put out, instantly available - unlike in the past, where routine vetting by higher-ups was the norm. Safer approach, but much slower than social media. 'Foot-in-mouth' occurrences will be much more common with social media use.

for this instance i may agree.....but the facts still remains they are the sons and daughters of a greedy empire!

Taking its cue from it's parents.......heartless and cold! Themsick motto 'Profit before anything else'!

But this is not why they apologize. They are apologizing their "insensitive" facebook comments, which turns out to be nothing.

mothership's more fair report:

I guess while MAS is the victim, SIA receives alot of flak from haters due to it being near to the incident. But without knowledge of the aviation norm, we cannot fully judge of what they do is correct of not.

What about those airlines who released statements that they are no longer using the route but the Radar app shows otherwise? WOuld Air India and Thai airways be more guilty for lying?

I am not SIA hater. In fact, I am SIA supporter. Just curious that they swept the near miss incident under the carpet with just a statement that they are not flying the corridor anymore.

Not safe to take flights anymore...better to sit on magic carpet that is powered by twin turbo coconut engines manufactured in Bomohland. This one can't be detected by even the most advance military radar system owned by many countries; only a pair of bamboo binoculars can see.
