Baal Supersonic September 14, 2014 Share September 14, 2014 More MY cars allowed on our roads will mean more congestion which could potentially translate into further cuts in COE quota if trend is allowed to continue (did anyone notice there are more MY vehicles on our roads in recent years prior to the imposition of the higher VEP?). Actually, I noticed the increase gradually since the opening of the casinos. I see alot of MY cars in MBS, Havelock road, shenton way.....etc. In the past, boleh plates tend to be on decade old cars, ......these days, easily Accord/Camry and above. ↡ Advertisement

Ticklish8 3rd Gear September 14, 2014 Author Share September 14, 2014 Business in Johor Baru has dropped by 30% over the past six weeks following the hefty toll increases at the Causeway to Singapore, DAP said today. Skudai assemblyman Dr Boo Cheng Hau said that the Singapore Land Transport Authority's announcement that it would match the toll rates at the Woodlands Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) with that of Iskandar CIQ would have an adverse impact on businesses in Johor Baru. "This will have an adverse impact on Johor Baru's businesses and Johor folk working in Singapore," he said in a statement. "For an average car, toll charges at both Iskandar and Woodlands CIQ would cost RM33," said Dr Boo, adding this was an additional burden for Johor folk. "Even though S$13 may not be a burden for Singaporeans working in Johor, it is a heavy burden for commuters from Johor, including school buses, buses, taxis and domestic commuters." The new toll rates at Woodlands CIQ will take effect on October 1. "The toll hike by Singapore will further hurt businesses in Johor Baru," Dr Boo said, adding that investor confidence in Iskandar Malaysia would also be affected. "The lack of transparency on the toll collections by concessionaire PLUS over the past 29 years will also have an impact on investor confidence. He said PLUS was estimated to have collected between RM876 million and RM1.5 billion over the past 29 years. "This is more than sufficient to cover the construction of the proposed Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) which is estimated to cost RM1 billion." Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong said the Causeway toll war was creating a wall separating Malaysia and Singapore. "With both sides now increasing the toll rates by up to 470% each, it is now almost impossible for ordinary Malaysians to commute on a daily basis across the Causeway. "The Iskandar Development Region is as good as gone while the local economy in Johor will face bleak prospects." Liew said that since Putrajaya announced the CIQ toll hike in July, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has not spoken on the subject. It is time for Najib to step up and empathise with the plight of ordinary Malaysians," he said, adding that Najib should show his leadership skills and resolve the crisis. The toll implemented on August 1 is to fund the RM1.3 billion EDL, which is free for all motorists in Johor Baru, except for those going through the CIQ complex to Singapore. Motorists from Singapore entering Johor through the CIQ Complex have to pay a toll of RM9.70, up from the previous RM2.90. Those travelling from Johor to Singapore previously paid no toll, but are now subject to a new toll of RM6.80. While motorcycles are exempted, buses, goods vehicles and taxis now also have to fork out extra at the Malaysian checkpoint. Spurman Supercharged September 14, 2014 Share September 14, 2014 Najib also kena snooked by sinkieland. Step 1. Vep increased. Affect only bolehland cars. Step 2. Najib act smart. Announce increase tolls. But fwah. Stupid move. Increase toll even on bolehland cars and worse bolehland lorries. Step 3. Sinkieland tit for tat. Also increse across the board. Agree, those who come here to gamble can choose to drive here in the evenings or during weekends when there is no VEP levied. Causeway and 2nd Link inbound traffic is always jammed pack in the evening.
Jman888 Moderator September 14, 2014 Share September 14, 2014 A dumb move by Najib that will hurt the Malaysia's Tourism. With MH370, MH17, Increased causeway toll, we shall see how much drop in number of tourists you have into Malaysia. Those who have property in JB, better sell it and return to Singapore before their economy sinks even further. Singaporean going in JB for petrol and grocery shopping consider tourist meh? Those Arab flying to KL spending thousands of dollar then consider tourist lor.

Meanmachine Supercharged September 14, 2014 Share September 14, 2014 I pitied those who bought JB condo pty, wait for 1-2 years TOP, wonder how thy gonna sustain, if leased out to who, what is the ROI and can't sell, no U turn and totally waste of money. Business point - many will have to refocus and regroup their biz strategy or cut loss. Those who go in for leisure- massage, drink and play, it does not bother them as tip alone is sufficient to cover Those who go in to buy medicine and TCM consultancy - Likely to re-schedule timing and buy in bulks Those ladies who go for Mani/ Pedi/ hair-cut/ perm will be to cut short their indulgence as thy can still get here in sunnyLand. And those who god for seafood & foods- May have to cut down by 50% as JB seafood are no longer cheaper than cheap. VEP is vehicle tax for commercials vehicles ( in and out of country ) and not meant for saloon / SUV. MPV cars, it has gone wayward towards a conducive atmosphere which spiralled out of control.

Ticklish8 3rd Gear September 14, 2014 Author Share September 14, 2014 Just come back from JB. If you look at Onemotoring you notice that there is no jam for cars coming back from Msia, but the truth is the HUGE jam is at Msian immigration... Why is this so? 1) The immigration process to clear each car is longer bec car owner need to tap the Touch n Go 2) The Msian immigration have shut down the Stulang Laut entrance to the CIQ 3) Many motorist are seen topping up their Touch n Go card.... According to the ST report, at last paragraph mentioned Singapore merely adhering to a policy of matching its neighbour's levy, Malaysia insists its collection is not a causeway toll, but to pay for the Eastern Dispersal Link, which is an elevated highway that connects the Johor Baru immigration complex to the North-South Expressway. But, to me, the toll colleced at causeway must be the causeway toll, otherwise it should collected somewhere else. am I right!

Paying for the EDL is bulls**t, if just for EDL, they should erect a toll stop to tap onto EDL, not by forcing everyone to pay even when not using it.
