En0203 2nd Gear September 24, 2014 Share September 24, 2014 Worn out shocks mean softer because less damping, car taking a longer time to settle down after a hump... How did yours end up "harder"? I looked at the original post about changing Anti-roll Bar... sure confirmed WS ! I also don't know. It felt harden, probably because the absorber no long absorbs the shocks well. Definitely not softer. ↡ Advertisement
Pisces69 6th Gear September 24, 2014 Share September 24, 2014 My car is 2.3L, not far from your 2.5L and I find that the incremental roadtax for the next 10 yrs amounts to about 6k, or about 500 more per year of depreciation, which is bearable. For you, @ 2.5L the total incremental roadtax would be about 7k for 10 yrs or 600 per year, which I find ok. Fuel consumption is another thing I am willing to bear for the power, driving underpower car can be very frustrated sometimes, but maybe at your age you no longer chiong like us though I always believe the speed monster within us is there to stay regardless of the age but I will find out only when I am your age You are absolutely spot on about the estate boot space though. I always wanted that space too and almost wanted to get one but unfortunately couldn't find suitable one. Boot space is indeed a big problem for sedan, as a sedan's boot is simply too small for any reasonable errands run The cabin space of the Optra is abt same as the IS250. Power wise the Optra has more than enough for me. But of course driving the IS250 is nicer than the Optra but I dun mind as I do find the Optra just fine. Everything I hv to pay more for the IS250 but space is smaller(boot). I dun see the point. But my SIL n daughter prob keep the IS250 cos they need the nicer car for seeing clients n running around with it. Otherwise I suggested they get a 2nd hand C180 is also a good option. VANBELLEJeanMarc Neutral Newbie November 21, 2018 Share November 21, 2018 You need to get it fixed ASAP unless you wanna get into an accident. Your shocks should have been changed at least 3 years ago. Heum, i drive a Honda FR+V from 2006 and at 238.000 km still have no new absorbers. It drives steady as can. But reading this topic, I will ask if they check it now, because i am having replacied the Airco Compressor next week. I have an Opel Vivaro L2H1 as well, and that one indeed needed new shock absorbers in the front after less than 2 years, but with 140.000 km i think. Thanks to the roads in... Bulgaria (i work and live there, but work as well in Belgium, each go or come back is 2222 km, through wonderful countries). i like this forum very much, but only decided today to join it. Have a Kawasaki 1400GTR as well... and one of my business is helping businesses with rentability when buying big trucks for European transport over the roads (see www.logocom.be/itlb but is in Dutch). +je Jean Marc VAN BELLE
ChengXuan Neutral Newbie January 10, 2019 Share January 10, 2019 Hello all. I am in need to replace my shock absorbers as going through humps and uneven road surface is causing too much shake in the car.Auto**** quoted me $2050 for Audi stock shock absorbers for both front and rear pair, absorber mounting, stopper, bearing, cover, and 1 year warranty. However, another workshop *** quoted me just $1200 for Audi stock shock absorbers (with installation) and that's all was mentioned.Who is the carrot chopper? is $2050 legit? kobayashiGT Internal Moderator January 17, 2019 Share January 17, 2019 For the warranty you are buying assurance. So anything happens, you can go back to them. For me personally, I will source for my own stockist, get all the parts and go to my workshop to settle. But some people who don't know workshops or much about cars, they can consider with warranty. That will be the safety net. I don't think is a carrot chopper. You buy travel insurance you don't use it, the money also won't return to you. Hello all.
