my buying guide

1. buy new car > if you can afford. for b&b car, with high trade in the final price and depreciation wasn't so bad. of course new car depre is higher than used car la, what do you expect.

2. buy pre-owned from AD > ie: ppsl, premium auto, toyota/honda/nissan got pre-owned sister company?

3. buy used car that is > 5 years old ie: tekan the price gao gao lowball it and assume the car need a few thousands to repair. screw the warranty and the ah beng dealer. of course you must test drive and made an educated guess that the car is driveable. send it to your trusted workshop for visual and quick test drive check if allowed.

4. buy from direct owner whom you personally know.

Waste time talking abt this. Our gov dun even bother to deal with car insurance unfair claims n issues. Simple ones have been around for the longest time. Singapore car got hit by Malaysia car can we claim?

Hi all,

i just want to get attention from people that i realise a lot of direct buyer is actually same person who selling a lot of cars and same contact as other dealer.

The reason is to manipulate the market to make people think that the used car price high sky is to blame direct seller who want to sell their car at high price infact the truth is dealer jack up the price, worse is the used car peice depreciation is higher than the current new car price even at $60-65k coe price tag.

They realise that people who dun afford downpayment for new car will narrow down to used car search n hence dealer unethically appreciate all their assets that they bought in at low price previously by manipulating market cause they know ppl who does not have a choice will go for used car

It is up to the buyer now to think twice n make clear calculation cause if u make purchase used car will always cause the used car market at high price due to dealer think no matter how high the depreciation u dun afford new car downpayment u come to used car n u pay something that is not worth moreover will need to pay for repair cost if the used car went wrong.
Overall in actual the used car depreciation will be a lot higher than the new car.

example new altis 10-11k depreciation
2006 altis 9-12k depreciation haven count the repair cost n the risk that the car might involve several accident

i want to urge the dealer stop manipulate the market price, also sgcarmart do not allow not genuine direct owner to post their car sales under direct owner advertisement.

Buying car is like buying shares in stock market. Do your homework and buy at your own risk.

Eeerrrrr... Supply and Demand... Willing buyer, willing seller... If you not happy about the prices and stay away... The sellers wouldn't have anyone to sell to.... Then they have to lower prices.... Free market dude....

some of these dealers quite stupid, take in the car at a high price then after awhile cannot sell. Then they also don't want to cut losses and still sell the car at that high price. Eventually the car is stuck with them for nearly a year. what to do?

see what car and condition. I've seen some trashed car...dealer willing to give big discount to sell as is. I've also seen excellent condition cars like those from PPSL....zero discount!

Yup, in business you win some you lose some... Hopefully you win more than you lose.

I understand dealers also make losses during the down cycles for 2nd hand cars.

Imagine now if the COE prices dip heavily (which had happened before) those 2nd hand car dealers who bought their stock at current and recent value will be looking at stomaching big losses for each car.

In Singapore, do not forget that each day, month and year that goes by, the car prices depreciate heavily due to our COE, PARF, OMV etc... It is not like buying a property where if you are cash rich you can wait out the down period.

For cars, when waiting out the down period, the paper value depreciates like crazy.

In any case, in the current market where the paper value of old cars is low and the selling price is high. It is willing buyer willing seller, so if there is not enough demand, the 2nd hand cars wouldn't sell anyway. But the fact is there is enough demand, so either you wait for prices to drop (some had been waiting many years) or you have no choice but to buy now. Oh yeah the last alternative is not own a car, yes it is an inconvenience (for some bigger than others) but nobody can say die die need a car to survive right? (even though our public transport reliability and comfort has dropped tremendously)

If ah beng dealer can resort to tampering of odometer, what's new? "Let the buyers beware" principle applies! [smash]

I am fine for the sellers to ask any price they want for their cars.

But why bother posing as direct seller when they are dealers.

Two years ago, there was an ah beng dealer who tried to sell me a 2008 CarreraS.

Gave me all sorts of stories. I lloked at him and suan him and yet he continued to lie through the skin of his teeth.

Big cock and bull stories about how he graduated from melbourne, wife is some corporate person, father owns building company but the car was registered under a car dealer. But i applaud him for having super thick skin. He just wouldnt admit even after so much suaning . Not surprise if he is in here .

Dont understand it.

Dealer say dealer lah, why need to pose as private owner seller.

You are spot on. So many Seng/Beng.

Saw 1 full tattoo (hands/legs) at 1 of the dealer located at Commonwealth OLDs Car Mart

near the gate entrance.

To buy from these people, I think LJ also must tattoo then can talk to them.

So the "snake" would have legs after extension to become a dragon huh?

Anyone notice the prices of new and used cars are creeping up gradually (for the past month)? By 1k - 3k.
